Whoa that freaky. They were saying that Japan has some of the most stringent building codes and technologically advanced buildings in the world, and are designed to withstand quite a bit. Its perfectly normal for them to sway. |

Layin block for a living, I've been up 8 stories on scaffolding working. Between everyone working, equipment bumping the scaffolding and high winds, it'd sway 2-3 feet away from the building at times. Plenty enough to make any mans butt pucker. Definitely need sea legs to work like that. I bet in those buildings it's a hundred times worse. Crazy stuff for sure.

Those buildings look scary! My dad was in an elevator between the 16th and 17th floor during the Loma Prieta quake in '89. He said they were thrown back and forth several times and were trapped in there for over 3 hours. I was working at a gas station at the time and the parking lot looked like 3 foot swells rolling back and forth. Can't imagine what it was like in Japan. |
