|  need some help with my computer
so my uncle built me a 'gaming' computer, and i know nothing about computers. it says it needs a reboot, so i bought a windows recovery/reboot disk, and it just tells me it needs to reinstall windows. i figured i'd get help by someone who knows what there doing so i don't have to buy a million disks to find out im doin it wrong. here are the specs on the computer if needed! MD Athlon II X 245 2.9ghz MSI K9N6PGM2 Nvidia 6150 chipset motherboard . Visiontek ATI Radeon 4850 videocard 512mb with Duo-Orb copper VGA cooler, coolermaster Hyper212 CPU cooler, Seagate Barracuda 500gb 7200rpm harddrive, 2gb PC-6400ram, (2) optical drives, DVD/CD-Rom utility drive & Samsung DVD/RW-CD Rom player/ 22X burner with Litscribe. Coolmax 700watt SLI-Crossfire semi mo Windows Vista score 5.6. thanks and any help is appreciated!!! |

Reboot = restart... Often it does need that to finish installing games/drivers/programs. Try restarting it... |

i had a floopy drive in my computer, till a few months ago when i swapped it out for memory card reader...sd cards are much smaller than floppy disks I also have a ZIP drive, it was like a super big floppy...but i never installed it as i couldn't find the right adapter. As for the problem at hand, just get a windows 7 upgrade disk...vista is horrible, no use of spending aton of money to get it to work. |

The computer asked for a "Reboot" to get something new or a change to work. Like others have said, the computer often needs to do this to get new programs or updates to take effect. All that means is the computer has to be turned off and then back on again. Some new programs require this as they can not be initialized with the computer running. They have to make their changes while the computer is in the start up process, thus requiring a "reboot", slang for restart. The computer has what is called "Bios" it is a small program stored on the motherboard of the computer, unlike everything else being on the hard drive (all your pictures, games, software, operating system, etc). When the computer first turns on this Bios program is the first thing to run. It tells the computer what to do and how to start up. One of the things it does is tell the computer where to find the information on how to start up (boot order). Usually it is set to a disc drive so that if your hard drive becomes corrupted, etc you can insert a startup disc to allow the computer to start. This is what is happening (I assume). if there is not a startup type of disc in the drive then the Bios tells the computer to look at the next in the Boot order. That is usually the hard drive. And that is where your windows operating system is installed. That has the information for what to do from there and bring up your computer main screen and alow you to do whatever it is you are going to do with the computer. Your computer is telling you to reinstall windows because the Bios is set to first boot from the disc drive. There is an installation disc in it. It is just doing what it is supposed to do, install windows (or fix it, etc). by taking the disc out the computer should move to normal (booting from the hard drive) and start up fine. That is vastly simplified as far as what is going on. |
