Default Damnit Irene!

So, I live in Camden, NC, about 20-25 miles from Nags Head. Usually I could care less when hurricanes come around, but this one kinda has me on edge! Might need to think about leaving, but I probaly won't.
Anyone else nervous about it? I thought the talks of evacuating NYC are a little absurd...

be safe though.

Hoyta, I'm in Elizabeth city and my family is leaving tomorrow. I'll most likely have to stay since I'm a student at the CG base. Be safe and I wish you the best.

If you decide to stay make sure you board up the windows and have PLENTY of supplies, enough for at least 2 weeks.Generator and gas is a plus.I was stationed in Miami when Andrew hit.BE PREPARED!! Just remember that after the storm passes you will be on your own for a while so no police or rescue services. That is if it hits you.

don't slow down....I'm a retired AVT.What school are you going to at E City? With this storm you'll be plenty busy.Good that your family is leaving.

I've been through a fairly bad hurricane before (no power for 16 days) and it wasn't as bad as I expected. If you are no where near flood zones, then it will just be lots of rain and LOTS of wind. Stock up on bottled water, candles (we buy large bags of those tea candles), non-perishible food, camping stove (and gas), fill up your gas tanks and spares and one helpful tip....the night before, fill up all bathtubs with water. That is helpful if the water lines are shut down and you need to flush the toilets. Cook all of your perishible food first. Make sure to keep your refrigerator closed as long as possible if you lose power.

My mom works in Austin (off Oltorf) and she said it was raining today. We got quite a few heavy storms last night and this morning.....blanketed the entire area. Everything west of 35 is still dry I presume...

I'm in Calabash, south of Carolina Beach (on the NC/SC line). All of the Brunswick County barrier islands are on a mandatory evacuation and we are under a hurricane warning. I am about a mile off of Sunset Beach (tiny barrier island).

I got supplies earlier this week, I'm charging all of my power tools now. I grew up across the border in North Myrtle Beach, so I've been through a few major hurricanes: Hugo, Diana, David and Floyd and countless smaller ones. Just gassed up the 4Runner and gotta go to work tomorrow to prepare for the storm.

Got to get out to pick up the crap in the yard now.

If you look at a radar right now you can see the spin off we're getting right now. If it hits where they say we're def going to get a little pounding. Im about 50-60 miles from the water. I heard the winds from a cat3 extend 200 miles from the center.

She looks pretty big on radar...

I live in ct and they're calling for 10" of rain and 100 plus winds so everyone is freaking out. And they're shutting down some highways and evacuating some ereas.

Me,i'm fine, just worried about the trees in the back yard and the flooding, were in a flood zone and the emergency dept in my town told us that we might have to leave tommorrw?they will call us in the AM.

Just put Barry out on the shore w/ a teleprompter and a speach on the green economy, that blow hard shouldn't have any problem blowing enough hot air to change the course of Irene.
