| Autism Awareness Fundraiser Raffle
Is anyone interested in doing this again this year? We have raised quite a bit of money for Autism Speaks and I would be willing to do it again this year if there is interest. And April is Autism Awareness Month!! |

I'm thinking of doing a raffle fundraiser for Thor, an autistic boy I know to get a service dog. His mom has already raised the $13,000 to have a dog trained but still needs money for them to go to the training center for 2 weeks where she can learn to be the dog's handler and Thor can meet and bond with the dog. PAWS 4 THOR If you'd like to work together on this I'd be willing to spring for at least one nice prize, probably an RC kit or something like that. I'm sure we can get some vendors to help out as well. If you'd rather just do a fundraiser for Autism Speaks I understand but this specific kid is where I'd like to focus my efforts. That is a great story. My daughter is 4 and Autistic. I have been trying to raise awareness as a whole for all Autistic people and not just a select few if you know what I mean. Autism Speaks is a great resource for parents and relatives to learn more about the effects of Autism and they also push for laws and regulations to help the Autistic Community. Your cause is a very good one, but having seen lots of families in financial ruin due to Dr bills and other assorted medical bills I feel that the awareness angle is a better one to grind at since it will help more families. I am lucky and my insurance foots pretty much all of the bill after my deductible is met, but I still pay a ton out of pocket. Not everyone has insurance that will pay for everything. I wish that boy the best in the world and hope he gets his dog and gets to go to the training.

After talking with the guys here I think we'll be doing something locally instead of over the internet but there's no such thing as too much awareness for autism. Whatever you end up doing count me in for helping or at least supporting the fundraiser, cheers for a great cause........
