not shure on the specifics, but an old tamiya kit would be a good start.

You're thinking of the Rough Rider. The Scorcher had the VW body. Same chassis but the RR had bigger tires.

Either one in decent shape costs a fawkin' fortune.

Sand Scorcher:

I thought Cox made the Scorpion?

Guess it was marketed under both names.

Quote:
In 1983 Kyosho released the Scorpion under the Cox name as well as their own. Kyosho did this on a couple of its kits such as the Progress and Gallop. The Cox version came in a smaller than normal box because the frame was pre-assembled. The Scorpion is an electric, two wheel-drive buggy that used the same chassis as its gas counterpart, the Circuit 1000 Advance. It did very well on tracks around the world running against the the slower and heavier Tamiya SRB series (Sand Scorchers, Rough Riders).

We had 2 of the Kyosho/Cox Scorpions when I was younger. I've still got the bodies and a ton of the parts for them. I'd like to see if I could rebuild one from all the parts we have. I know one of the trannies we have from the Scorpion is in pretty rough shape so I thought about using it for a custom reduction for a scale crawler type build.

I'll try to get some pics if I can dig the parts out of the attic someday.
