Default Does anybody remember these?

Radioshack Xmods.

Well, being that it is late at night and I actually remembered what they were called, I went eBay-ing to see what they are going for. Not 5 minutes later, I found that Radioshack will be carrying these again in the Fall of this year!

I feel like I'm 11 again knowing that these little things are coming out. There is just something fun about having a 1:28th scale truck, tuner, muscle car that you can improve its looks, performance (2wd to 4wd conversions), and more!

I actually had this EVO and a Scion tC back when they were around.

I used to have a few back in the day when they came out...I had a few muscle car versions....for guys like me that like model cars It was cool to kinda have model cars that I could drive. the kyosho mini z stuff is even more insane than xmods but they are both fun as hell.

One year I bought the kids and myself XMODS for Christmas... they were fun little cars... I actually still have all 3 (NSX, 350Z & Skyline).
I drove the NSX... with all the upgrades!

I raced the Mini-Z's... They were so much better than the xmods... I had a track built in the garage that we raced on and one of the guys brought over his xmods (didn't want to drop the coin on the mini-z) and he couldn't even make 1/2 of the corners.

A few pics of it before it was torn down.

They definitely are not race worthy but they are fun for putting around on the kitchen tile and having the ability to change the bumpers, motors and whatnot. I mean they only ran on 4 AAA batteries.

I'll be interested in seeing what new models they will be putting out and what technology they will have with it (2.4GHz radios, brushless, lipo capable etc.).

They're also fun for those slow days at work. Like making a track on the conference room table or on your desk

I'll have to check out the HPI. I've always wanted to have an on-road vehicle but didn't want to spend too much money just because the LHS doesn't have alot of races going on.

Compared to the Xray, the HPI is awful. I would get an Xray M18 if I was racing minis again.

That being said, I had an xmod that I raced in my garage and it was cheap fun. Modified the servo for tighter steering and it worked pretty well in a 10x20 track.
