Default My Wraith a drone ????????????

I went camping last week in a National Recreational Area and took my RC rigs like have done for the last several years. I was running the Wraith on the dunes near the campground and was stopped by a ranger. I was told that the Wraith was a drone and a "new recreational use" and as such is not allowed under existing policy. My choice was to either pack up and leave the campground or surrender my rigs.

Has this happened to anyone else?

No. Total BS. Ranger was on a power trip or was secretly trying to steal your Rc.

From what I understand from another forum is that RC vehicles of any type (air, land or water) are not allowed in National Parks. Which is a bummer...

Fawk.. I hope that doesn't trickle down into state parks. It would definitely kill crawling in ourvarea.

I haven't had this happen (yet) but I fear its coming. I wish the government could nail down a definition of what a "drone" is. N8welch and I were at the local park a few weeks ago and I kept wondering if the ranger would come over and accuse us of domestic terrorism under some Department of Homeland Security rule that is so vague that it can be interpreted in a hundred ways to suit the governments wants and needs. Its sad that we as hobbyists are being targeted under laws that have already proven to not hold water. What did the ranger say the "existing" law was?

This has always been my biggest fear since the Quadcopter boom...

Rc being lumped in with Mil tech..
DRONES%#%

Most of our crawling spots are state parks.
If they push it or choose to we'd be looking desperately for new ground.

I just looked up the federal law. Passed last May 2014 "unmanned AERIAL vehicles" have been banned from all federal parks. Beings that the drones are "noisy and can effect animal habitat". Yall take your trucks and go play. Smokey the Bear gives ya any grief, tell him to go review his books. As long as your trucks don't fly, I'll have to talk to the yellowstone rangers around here and see their point of view on it.

Had I similar problem in a local Tennessee state park recently. Ranger said no "motorized vehicles" allowed. Basically told our group to pack up and never come back. Other option was stay, and receive a ticket. %his park

Our county (Santa Clara) has a blanket "no R/C" policy. I know most rangers I've talked to were curious about the crawlers and agreed they should change the policy. However, believe it or not, I had a ranger at castle rock park confront us awhile back with his sidearm halfway out of its holster. We weren't even driving them, still on our back packs. Gave us the riot act and escorted us out.

I lost interest in riding my quad cause of the loss of riding areas. Now I'm hearing the same story with R/C's. At least I never had a gun pulled on me while riding an ATV.

Drone crashes into famed hot spring at Yellowstone National Park

They'll ban everything soon.

Why even have public parks if you can't utilize them!
