Lesbians and broke college kids ruined the subaru image around here. Thought I could get passed that and bought one. Owned it for 1 month and sold it. AWD is not my thing. I have way more fun driving bias-ply tires on 67-72 chevs.
You can get Bias Ply for the Suby, they're usually what's used for rally tires.

What's wrong with lesbians owning Subies?

Nothing. Just confuses me when finding a parking spot.

Be prepared for long walks. Parking this behemoth is a challenge.. You'll find yourself parking at the far end of the parking lots and walking to the store so you can get in and out easier. Tight turns can be challenging at times.

The big block isn't as scary as you might think. Because it has to do less work than a small block, it can be gas efficient so long as you don't have a lead foot. Be easy with it (go ahead and tune it up) and you can expect 15-18 mpg on the highway unloaded.

Not.Ever.Going.To.Happen.Period.

I once owned the same beast. 10-12 MPG was a good highway run. Fully overloaded and pulling a 16 ft. car trailer, 6-8 MPG.

10 to 12 would be pretty sweet. I really expected 8 at best.

Depends on gearing, terrain, tune, etc..

I think driving down hill with a strong tailwind would be expensive in that thing.

What size is the motor in that thing in litres?

Fact. That's a lot of iron to move and that's a smog engine. I remember following a build on a motor sports photographers tow rig that was clicking off consistent 19 mpg while towing but it was running a b&m mega blower on top of the rebuilt for torque big block with a gear vendors OD so he was cheating a bit.

Thought about it a bit last night, and remembered a minor detail that my last 454 dually had.. fuel injection. (Doh!) Makes a huge difference between the MPG compared to that carb'd beast. You might want to consider an aftermarket throttle body setup for that truck. Would make a big difference, and make cranking it up during cold weather much easier.

Werd.

Mine was registered in King county, Washington, so it had to pass a smog test. 454, oval port heads, tuned Q-jet, 4 speed manual gear box, 4.56 gears. It was a beast, but even back then when gas was $1.15 it still hurt to fill those tanks and watch the gas needle move as if there were holes in the tanks!

No smog here but I don't think I would delete it. It would be nice to keep it as complete as possible for resale purposes.

Hardest part right now is convincing the future wife that I need 4 vehicles.

You'll learn soon enough that you don't ask permission, just forgiveness. And you can only get away with the "But I bought it for you" card once.

Are you going to be able to park that beast in the apt. complex parking lot?

I'd say go for it, especially if you can flip it in a year and make some coin off of it. As a bonus, if there's a lot of boats in your area, you can make some money with the truck hauling the boats from the marina to the owners house when winter rolls around. I did plenty of that.
