What does your family/friends think about your rc hobbie?

I've found that many women I've dated (I'm 42) actually like the idea that I'm passionate about a hobby (and my work) and that I travel to out of state competitions... even if they they don't understand the appeal.

My girlfriend still enjoys calling me King Of The Guru's, a comp I won when we first started dating... she even kinda brags about it.

My wife jokingly gives me a hard time about it being a hobby for kids but in all seriousness she likes that I have a hobby and appreciates all the effort that goes into it..

My wife loves to see how happy and excited I am about the hobby. Yes, she thinks I'm silly too, but she's got her own RC and sometimes heads out with me so she's right there, sharing the silliness.

My wife doesn't mind it, and likes to drive once in a while, and actually likes the 1/6 Jeep better than the go-fast SCT's, but she'd rather I stick to the garden railroad. She hasn't given me an ultimatum yet.

My wife is fine with it and enjoys the fact that I do something constructive until I leave for a get together or a swap meet and spend the whole day away (it doesn't help that I'm only home 2 days a week). I'm building a truck up for her to drive and she is excited about that so I think I'm good to go. She doesn't really "get it" yet but she has enjoyed herself the times we have gone out to events.

Some of my friends love the idea and I have introduced several of them to crawlers/rc in general. Then there are the others that think it is a stupid thing to do and waste of time.

The best yet is my wife's best friend that spent 20 minutes on the phone chewing me out for wasting time and money. Then when I showed my truck and drift car to her husband and he liked it she thought it would be a good thing for him to do to pass time while he is away (also spends weeks at a time away from home).

My wife is just glad I have something to do instead of bugging her. She doesn't understand my rc hobby, but it doesn't bother her. She even encourages my hobbies. She bought me my Bomber for Christmas. My kids think the planes and crawlers are cool. My parents both think it's kinda stupid. They think I'm being childish. Most people who see us running rc's think they're neat. I personally don't care if anyone likes what I like. I've always been the type who does my thing no matter the popular opinion.

Well I got into this after I bought my grandkids a couple of Tempers for Christmas, I thought these things are really great so I bought myself a little Slick Rock. Now I have a Wraith, an Axial G6 jeep and just built a Gmade R1. Now for you young guys out there I am 73 and having a great time working on these toys and my wife is vry happy that I have a hobby to keep me busy. Oh I still have my property to take care of and I do a lot of long range shooting but this is a hobby I can do on cold windy days and in the evening. Wish I had found this a long time ago. I am going to Prescott Az for the nationals next week too.

I am divorced and single so don't care what everyone else thinks. BUT my daughter likes it and has her own trucks and we bash and work together as father and daughter and that is all I need.

My now ex-wife hated my RC addiction. Got so bad that I got out of a hobby I had loved for over 20 years. Got rid of so much that'll never be replaced, but I learned several valuable lessons. First off, if she loves you, she'll want to see you happy and will support you in your hobbies, within reason. After getting back into RC a little over a year ago I was reminded of the friendships that are created by these little cars, trucks and planes. My last girlfriend thought it was awesome that I had such a passion for something and would actually set silently and watch as I worked on them. Dammit, maybe I should have kept her

P.S. I'm going after my Ex for 4 years back child support, and it's all going to be spent on R/C. That's called karma Don't worry, my daughter is very well provided for. She's got 2 crawlers, short course truck and a heli

I have a wife and 2 kids ages 10 and 3. My wife will be the first one to tell anybody that I am her 3rd child. I'm 33 and I have a rc/video game/jeep/mustang addiction. She doesn't bitch about anything. She loves me and my quirks. As long as her and the kids are provided for first then it's all good. She encourages my hobbies as I do hers. Yes shopping and getting nails done are her hobbies and do I ever say anything about her hobbies? No sir I don't. Ain't a damn thing wrong with being a grown kid.

Having kids gives me an excuse for more toys - Legos, Super Soakers, Play Doh, video games, RC, all the stuff my parents couldn't afford for us. That's the real meaning of upward mobility - the opportunity to buy all the toys you never got as a kid.

My wife don't mind my hobby until something breaks, or i want to upgrade. Then all i hear about id the cost. I then reply, " well we use to spend more a month on smokes before we quit". Her reply, "True".
