Default Warn Drill Winch

Looks like these have been out for a while, but I saw it for the first time last night...

It looks like a useful very portable winch. You are right in line with the pull, but it is only 500lbs, so snap back shouldn't be that big of an issue. I am wondering if the steel cable can be replaced with Amsteel.

Thoughts?

I had no idea about these until about a month ago. I am looking at picking one for our mountain bike club. The winch and a drill would fit in a backpack. I think it could make quick work for moving downed trees off the trail.

Good question on swapping out the cable. That could drop a bit of weight, I would imagine.

I personally only see it as a replacement for a come-a-long and only in the sense that it might be a bit faster than manually working the ratchet mechanism on the manual winch. You'd have to remember to bring charged batteries for the batt drill motor as well.

It definitely has some usefulness. I'll wait for AvE to take one a-part and give some feedback !

I have had great success with a capstan winch for moving trees. While it is portable, I would not want to mountain bike with it.

What I don't like, it looks like you are in direct line with the straps and if they let go you could be hurt, and doesn't look like you can stand off the side or out or the way like bumper mounted winch with the remote cables

And it only pulls up to 500lbs, So you would not be pulling car on trailers or even loading a quad, my Dad is 600 some pounds, I would ride it up the ramps and onto the trailer instead of winching it up

I'd pass on it to be honest seems like a novity item too me
