What did you do today?

I don't remember seeing a thread like this on here so I thought it would be fun to start one.

Post up anything, preferably fun and awesome, that you did today or during your weekend. Make sure to include photos of the fun.

So...what'd you do today?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a pretty good weekend. Saturday was my second cousin's second birthday party. Lots of fun because I enjoy hanging out with my big family. No photos of that because you most likely don't care.

On Sunday my dad and I rode our motorcycles up to Bear Creek Mountain Resort to a Mahindra Roxor demo hosted by Blackman's Cycle Center. I'm somewhat familiar with the Roxor because I've had interest in them since they were first announced and because Blackman's is a dealer and they have tons of them in stock. But if you are not familiar with the Roxor they are basically licensed Jeep CJ clones meant to be sold abroad. The versions sold here are assembled in American and although not street legal apparently Mahinda made them as easy as possible to get plated and there are companies that will get them registered for you. They are powered by 2.5L turbo diesel four cylinder engines. They don't have a ton of power, but they are geared so low that they would pull a house. Top speed is governed to 55 MPH. Jeep is not happy they are being sold in the US and a lawsuit has been filed against Mahindra.

Anyway, Blackman's had five Roxors on hand. Four were manual and the one I got to drive was automatic. We took about a 10 minute trail ride through fairly mild terrain, but these things are a ton of fun. They'd be perfect for slow trail rides and crawling. If you want to blitz down trails a SxS would probably be a better option.

The lineup minus the guide Roxor.

After this I also gave the Honda CRF50 pit bike a service.

Re: What did you do today?

Well, not today, but Saturday night was a 'night poker run' put on my a local club 'Crazy Crawlers' out at Horseman's Center in Apple Valley - same location we have Proline By The Fire crawling event. About 80 peeps showed up with all their gnarly crawler rigs and did a 2 hour trail run with 5 poker-card buckets - best hand takes the entry haul which was $15/head.

Very nice event, and it cools right off up there in the high desert as soon as the sun sets.

RC Crawling is alive and well in so-Cal. "thumbsup"

On another note, I have sold my BMW R1200GS adventure bike.
Ol' Browneye is just getting too old to ride.

But my back is finally back to normal after an 8-week misery. A sports-medicine clinic and DC fixed me up in three visits. Whoot!!

Great idea on the thread Jato!"thumbsup"

Well, I don't have any pics and I made sure I did as little as possible this past weekend!:)

I was lucky enough to have another Birthday this past Saturday the 21st! I went out to eat with the family and went back home to watch College football the rest of the day. That is all I did and I was completely happy with it!:lmao:

I don't believe I have ever heard of the Mahindra Roxor. I know they make tractors, but never knew they made Jeep clones. They look cool and they look like they would be fun to cruise around in on the backroads!

Fri/Sat was Squirrel Fest 2019 here in Southern Oregon. My 3rd year in attendance, and I've won at least 1 event every year, but never the same event twice. This year I got 3rd in the Fast Drag / Hill Climb, and 1st place in the 1/18 Class (RC4WD rigs) Mini Crawl. Won a 1/24 ECX crawler as a prize for 1st place. Josh (Harley Designs) and John Schultz (Element RC) were both in attendance this year. My daughter talked Josh's ear off and got her picture taken with him.

Congratulations! My wife and I closed on our first home Sept 6th. Since then it's been a whirlwind of new challenges and frustrations ( and some degree of excitement). I've never lived in a halfway decent home so this is all quite unfamiliar territory. Old house I had lived in for 15 yrs was built in 1942 on pier & beam/ 1100 sq ft. New place was built in 2001 on slab/ 1832 sq ft. I'm loving having a proper garage now and my wife is loving having indoor laundry facilities lol. Having two bathrooms is also pretty nice.

This past wknd was the "big" move... furniture. So tired and sore today but thankfully we had a few of my friends with trucks and a trailer help with this monumental task. Never realized how many tools and crawlers and guitars and hobby stuff I had until now. We're about 80% done at this point and will be going back and forth this week to get the remaining things as well as cleaning/ mowing etc at the old house. So much that we're already doing or planning to do here at the new house but it certainly gets overwhelming so we're making sure to prioritize and just take things one step at a time.

I went and picked up my wild lands gear, and my bunker gear today, and made a deal on a 2007 F150, I paid $900 for, but it’s missing 3 tires.

Every year, a volunteer sacrifices a crawler to die an awful death, lol. Some people get pretty offended, but it's all in fun. It was a younger kid this year, so the remains were auctioned off (for $200) and given to the kid to start him on his next build. Plus people usually get together after the carnage and donate parts and stuff to the person who made the sacrifice.

It's something different every year. 2017 it was run over by a 1:1 crawler. 2018 it was chopped in half by a guillotine...

Here's a couple more pics:

I didn't do anything as exiting as crushing RC's, I picked up about 400 lbs in rock to add to my backyard course. When I get bored with my layout I'll tear down the course and re-stack everything, its a fair bit of work but worth it so it stays fresh. So thats what I did on Saturday, I ran it for a total of like 6 hours or so this weekend.

I detest moving. When we got our house, we went from a 710 sqft apartment to a 2200 sqft house. Coming out of the apartment, I figured the move would be pretty simple. Wrong! I can't believe how much stuff we had crammed in that apartment. Thankfully we literally moved 1 mile away, so it was pretty easy to shuttle stuff.

As for my weekend, I did absolutely nothing for the most part. We took advantage of "Free Museum Day" and took in this: Millyard Museum. It is an interesting history of my city. After that, I drank beer with my neighbors.

Yay ambition! :lmao:

I got off my ass a bit late, but went out with the car to test a new area i have found.
Also grabbed a few gates for my trip.

As long as you don't mind clearing a few branches ASO when putting down a track, and have some footwear that do well with water, and you don't mind to be in a area that as far as i can tell see some earth slides then its all good.

<iframe width="1213" height="682" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Npa9qHHYgnE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I was a bit too hard with the gates today, in regard to placement, forgetting i run a fairly slammed C1 rig, and could probably find some better tires for the job too.
Then again if it was easy, every one would do it.

Re: What did you do today?

I already PM'd this to the OP as part of a long convo... "thumbsup"

But as long as we are talking about good stuff that happened over the weekend - OK, I'll preface this by saying that I worked Saturday and Sunday. Same as I have for the last 9 months or so...

BUT!

Just yesterday, I found out from a co-worker that they had done profit-sharing, and that I should check my bank (I had seen some email about it and ignored it, because I thought it was for salaried only)...

I checked it and found out I got a pro-rated direct deposit for my 6 months as a direct-hire!

I have not had something that unexpectedly nice happen to me in maybe 20 years...

So, now I have no worries about picking up a new crawler as my B-day (I'll be 55 Nov 8th... groan) gift
.
That's just too damn cool!

And about a week before that, I found out I got my desired shift bid for the next quarter - so on Oct.7 I start having Friday and Saturday off for the next 4 months!

...beats the heck outta having Wednesday and Friday off, and having to work the day in-between, as well as both of the aforementioned weekend days.

So - high plains drifter, and anyone else that's moving to (or nearby) Austin, maybe this fall when it gets cooler outside, we can have some crawling sessions!

As long as we don't end up being some huge unruly mob - I know of a few really nifty scale-accurate spots in town...

Re: What did you do today?

just another typical day as a navy school house instructor...
counseled (verbally) a young sailor for being late to class for the second day in a row. he lives about 10 miles from base, has no car, had been taking the trolley to base this whole time and it had problems so he took an uber that was late and he went to the furthest gate to be dropped off at base, not knowing our school building is 50 feet from another gate he had never seen before. *facepalm*
problem solved. i hope. (next step is written counseling)

then knocked out all my required online GMT courses for FY19.
next on the docket is a total course revamp and finishing my eval. but i had enough for now that's why i'm on here ;)

camping trip this weekend up near Julian (google julian apple pie) and bringing the element enduro sendero, and my son's chevy ascender. if i figure out a new pic hosting site, i might toss up some pics of the new TEAM SHINCHU mobile headquarters in its natural habitat, and some nice California mountain scenery in the background of some tiny truck pics.

some great news in here so far, good to hear positive stuff. happy to hear your back is better Chris! Sorry to hear you had to let go of the bike though. its tough making a life choice like that. but the triumph of overcoming your own ego and being realistic enough to do it is a hell of an accomplishment. my wife is trying to get my to quit collecting action figures, but... my ego for that is too strong hahaha

OH! as i hit the shift key with my pinky, it reminds me of another positive thing i did (although technically last Thursday not today) i nearly amputated the last 2mm of my fingertip in a tomato slicing incident (it flipped open like a ketchup lid, complete with gushing ketchup). but thanks to quick thinking, military training, and a large supply of Bob Smith Industries CA glue, i am proud to report it has been re-attached, and even better still has feeling!!! ITS ALIIIIIIVE!!!!!
I DO have a pic of the glue still drying just moments after the accident, but like i said i need to find a new image hosting site as my go-to tinypic has gone the way of photobucket.
once i find a site i'll edit this post. its not too gory so even the squeamish should be able to appreciate the use of RC glue to mend a finger. YAY GLUE!

No doubt. I work out of state and constantly on the move it seems. I keep a couple tubes of superglue in my shaving kit as well as band aids in my wallet since I have 3 rambunctious kids. Actually gave a band aid to a 70+ year old woman bleeding out at the Sams check out last week from a scratch.

Yeah you never know when you could save somebody with the right thing at the right time.
My wife was at Michael's getting some craft stuff tue other day and heard an older woman fall and whimper for help. She ran and told the cashier to call 911. We dont know what happened because she had to leave to pick up our kids from school but we hope she is okay. Falls at that age can be lethal.

And yep I have spare band aids in my wallet right now so I dont snag my ketchup cap and rip it open again lol
So far so good!

Thanks for the hosting suggestion. I tried that one before but I dont think it has a resizing option?

From 710 to 2200... That's quite a significant change! Walking around this new house, I'm almost getting out of breath at times lol.

It's true! Unbelievable how much stuff you accumulate over the years and how it all winds up getting crammed into the smallest of spaces. We had no idea how much stuff we truly had hiding in all the closets and cabinets at the old place... not until we had to start taking everything out and getting it all packed up! Fortunately for us as well, we're not too far from the old house ( about 5 minutes) so that allowed us to make quite a few trips per day.

We're just about 20 minutes east of ABIA and I'm ready to crawl or bash most anytime so long as I have time to get a few packs charged up. Would definitely be cool to meet up with some others and if anyone wants to head our way, I promise that we've got some pretty nice spots to crawl. One of my favorite places is a rocky trail that leads thru some scenic old pine forest. Used to have a lot more pines here before 2011 but you know... the fires.:(

I'd also be open to checking out some crawling areas closer to you, durok. I definitely wouldn't be one of the unruly ones as the older I get, the less I'm able to endure the subsequent consequences of raising hell lol.

Imgur does have some basic resizing options, when you click on an image you uploaded there are a few options in the bottom right corner, original, small square, big square and so on. I find the large thumbnail is just right for my phone pics.

I just googled Tinypic and they suggest using their sister company Photobucket , right LOL. That sucks, These hosting sites really need to stop doing this BS.

As an Imgur user I'd say it really, really sucks. The sharing and organizing is way behind the competition. But it seems like it will be around and free forever since it's owned by Reddit so it's sadly probably the best free option.

Today's accomplishment: I put my own shoes on!

That probably sounds ridiculous to most, but I had surgery on my spine last month, and recovery has not been going great, so I haven't been able to do that in a month. Now, they're slip-ons, but I'll take it!

I still can't walk or sit for more than a few minutes though (at least I haven't needed shoes) so I'm dreading the ride in the car to get to my Dr.'s appointment this afternoon. I did manage to get myself to my garage to take a quick inventory of what I have on hand, and what I still need for my Capra kit. Hoping to get the last of it ordered today!

Jesus that made me cringe! I'm not stranger to surgery, but I never want it on my spine. My dad has been there a few times though. Good luck!

I worked at my boring job and then had Chef Boyardee pizza for dinner. I've love that stuff since I was a kid.

Now looking at wheels and servos for the Capra.

Sorry to hear that! I could not even imagine how painful that must be. Hoping that your recovery starts to get better soon!

Well, I went to the dentist today to get a filling and was going to say how bad my day went because of that, but it doesn't even compare to LetterJ's day, so I guess I better be happy that is just my teeth and not my back!

Get well soon LetterJ!"thumbsup"

Re: What did you do today?

Thanks guys. I hope it didn't sound like I was complaining, I really was excited to be able to put my shoes on, I even sent a picture of my feet to my wife!

I'll tell ya, I've been dealing with my share of health issues over the last handful of years, but after having a stroke earlier this year, things really got put into perspective. There's no more "when my ____ gets better, I'm gonna ____." I'm really learning not to take for granted what I DO have, and what I CAN do, and do it today! Things could ALWAYS be worse, and knowing that makes me realize it's not so bad. I've got a wife that loves me and 2 healthy boys that still want to be like Dad. Momma keeps the bills paid, and makes sure we can still have our toys. I've got some good friends that are always there, no matter what. It's certainly got its ups and downs, but really, life is good.

Realizing that we're not guaranteed one more day on this Earth can really change your perspective. My older brother passed away 2 years ago at the age of 35, he had a connective tissue disorder he'd been battling for 18 years and more open heart surgeries than I can count, but if you saw him on a good day he was the most positive person you'd have ever met and made no mention of his own struggles, all the while showing genuine interest in what was going on in other peoples lives. I learned a lot from him, and I celebrate even the littlest victories (like putting on my shoes) like he taught me!

Hopefully that's interpreted as upbeat as I intended.

... and on another note: I sold my Bully2 tonight, which means I can order the last of my Capra parts, as well as the cheap plasma cutter I've been eyeing! Yay for new toys!

Health issues suck. I like to say I'm still on the right side of the dirt. :)

Congrats on getting better (and on the Capra), and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it continues for ya!

I finally got a bit of motivation yesterday - an ongoing issue with me.

Started doing some of the final tweaks to my Enduro, getting ready for the cooler weather.

Finished trimming the Lexan for the utility bed and made a stiffener to sandwich between the mounting hardware and the cab, as the RTR body is very thin.

Decided to move my Boom Racing "work truck" wheels with Choodoos over to the TRX-4 Defender, as the smaller OD tires will need portals to have decent clearance at the diff housings.

The Enduro will either run on stock rubber mounted to SSD steelie spokers or 1.7" siped Boggers mounted on SSD steelie 5-slots...

Got the CodyBoy-fabricated steel Panhard to mount up, as well.

Going to install my DS 3218 Pro and see how well it works off the 3A internal BEC of the RTR ESC.

Gotta go to work now, and will be off again tomorrow!

I’m in the oilfield, drilling side and currently in WTX. Set a lease record against 5 other more capable rigs and nearly 100 wells. My relief and I made over 3455’ in a 24 hour period. Ousted the previous record by 195’. A report came out from corporate and I have the fastest connections, fastest pipe tripping both in/out, 2nd place for running casing (12,000’ in 12 hours vs 14,000’), as well as fastest transitions between operations. This is a performance based industry and we’ve survived 1.5 years to date. 3 other rigs have come and gone.

Re: What did you do today?

Short answer: I got some sleep

Longer Answer: After about 20 years of not feeling rested after sleep, finally got in to see a sleep specialist recently. They did a sleep study and found that I have pretty significant sleep apnea (averaged 76 apneas of 10+ seconds per hour, no REM sleep in 4 hours, oxygen levels dropped under 80%). Got fitted for a CPAP machine yesterday, last night was my first night wearing it. Still need to get fully used to it, but I definitely feel different today...

That's great Jsterrett! I have several friends and family members that use a CPAP, and it was truly life changing for all of them. Better sleep means more energy throughout the day and a better mood too! My dad even rigged up a motorcycle battery to an inverter so he can take his camping, he had all but stopped camping for nearly 20 years because he couldn't sleep, but that's no longer an issue.
