Two completely different battery technologies.
LiPo batteries are lighter for the same voltage and capacity. They hold a charge longer and are more efficient so they don't taper off like NiMh as you use them. They give good power right up until they "dump".

LiPo batteries require a different charger than NiMh unless you buy one that can do both. They require a balancer to balance the cells in them and a voltage cutoff to protect them from being over-discharged. LiPos also have the possibility of catching on fire if they are punctured or charged after being over-discharged. They are also more expensive for the same capacity.

yes, I made the jump to 11.1v last week, it wasn't cheap for a teenager in school, but I think it is well worth it

Yes, get a lipo. I run Thunder Power 3c 11.1 volts, 1320mAH, great batteries and I would go with their balancer and charger. I use a TP-1010C charger. Thunder Powers customer service rocks. I discharged a battery to low and I sent it back, because I'm using their balancer and charger they fixed it for me for free.

Just my opinion though.

Bah humbug!

If you can go for the Li-po, it's worth it for the performance you get.

Wasn't me, I just watched. Think that was Slugz handy work, I think it was Sloth or Stew's batt. It puffed up big on the charger so we disposed of it.

You need an ESC with a LiPo cutoff, a lipo charger and a balancer. Check out holmes hobbies, he has some good chargers with built in balancers for good prices. Also great service.
