Colorado Comp. June 19th

CONFIRMED!

It will be at my house in the Colorado Springs area of Monument and Black Forest. For those not from the area: it is located about 50 miles north of Pueblo and about 40-50 miles south of Denver. June 19th....all day long, until we just get sick of crawling. I'll BBQ and have some beer for you all. The courses are going to be disgustingly sick.....so be ready for carnage!!!!!
You can email me to let me know if you're coming and I'll give you good directions. I'm expecting 10+ rigs at the moment. I'm sure more will confirm.

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

The course consists of several, very, very technical and steep waterfalls. Wheelbase and low cg will be your friend, as well as low gearing and durability. There are also big boulder sections in between the waterfalls that favor the Kong tired and mucho clearanced crowed. After the waterfall sections, we move to large boulder fields that will require serious technical work or...you may just have to bash through.
I can alomst promise that you will hate me and my devilish courses when the day is done. You'll also need to visit the hobby store the next day.

Oh yes. There will be scoring and some nice prizes for the winner. Each waterfall will have escape routes for the wimps. Using escape routes will add to your score and hurt your ego! In the boulder fields, there will be a "Big Balls Route" and a "***** Route". You will automatically add points to your score if you choose the ***** Route but you may add even more points by attempting and failing the Big Balls Route. You will need to be a thinker before hitting my rock courses.

One more note: Wear some hiking boots or comfortable shoes, as we will be hiking through some natural terrain and we will most likely walk to a boulder field course that is about .25 miles away from the Waterfalls. The threat of thunderstorms will also be high. The waterfalls may actually be just that.....full of water!!!!! Be prepared!!!!

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

whats the weather like up there at that time of the year. and what are the rules concerning battery changes on course? i only run el cheapo 1500 packs, so i may need to change on course.

ouch, just checked, about a 13 hour drive from phoenix! ohh well, the price we pay.

more people may see the post in general discusion. i would have missed it if i didn't see it on outerlimits, then i would have missed a great event! :D

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Weather is very warm and gets humid with big thunder storms in the after noon. Usually in the low 80's. Where I live and where the comp will be is an altitude of about 8,000 feet! Being from the desert, you will be in for a shock!

As for batt. changes, penalties will not apply to that. I will also post in the General.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just pre-ran the waterfalls. Well.....waterfall. After 1 hour of trying, I finally beat the first waterfall. I started to try the 2nd and it was getting too dark and I was tired. Twisted a drive shaft and my front ring and pinion are now smooth. Prepare for CARNAGE!!!!!!!!!

I also added a new section to kick off the event.
It's called: Tierra Del Sol

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

I will be at the next one. Just be sure to send me lots of pics, and add in an extra you missed the first one bonus :P

I will be ready to tackle what you got and show you highly modded trucks how to do it in the almost stock TXT :flipoff:

Good luck to all, having crawled with Dirk, and starting to know his idea of fun, you will need all the luck and skill you can manage to handle these.."courses"

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

So be honest. Is this something where anything smaller than the Electric Digler is gonna just be doomed or is it technical enough that a Clod or TXT with 6" tires and a 15" wheelbase has a chance at making it? :?

Also, what are the rules. I am interested in scoring for backups, stops, cones. Is there no points for a backup less than the wheelbase, are stops scored and for how long, what is considered "hitting" a cone; touching it, moving it, knocking it over? What will be the gate width? I am doing some practicing and need to know what to look for.

Is there a rule against switching tires between stages or courses?

DirkDigler 06-08-2004 01:21 PM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Yes. I designed it so no one could win but ME!!!! :flipoff:

Actually, I really think that the small rigs will fair better. I am trying to get my Belly Dragger finished because I am planning on only competing wtih that, not the Digler. I use the BFT's and it's 15 inches of wheelbase.

As for the rules, I am going to keep it very simple.....you'll see. Basically, you will add points for every "bad" move. The lowest score wins. You can run a cone over but not disturb it's general placement, etc. The gates on the rock fields will be about 22 iches or so. The waterfalls will not have gates. You either make it up in a certain amount of time or you take the bypass route(***** Route). Basically, you make it or you add a lot of points to you score. I have to put a time limit on it because it is that tough and we need to move fairly quickly. Back ups are allow but you add points if you go beyond your own wheelbase. If you have to touch the truck, you add points, if you roll over but land on your wheels and can still proceed forward, you don't add points but if you roll over backwards more than the trucks length, you add points, etc, etc, etc. I'll go over all the rules when you get here. We'll keep it real simple and any input will gladly be implemented if it make sense to. Cool?
You guys still won't beat me.....I have the home field advantage!!!!!

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

i'm still up in the air. i'm just dreading the 13 hour drive! that's the biggest drawback for me. plus, i only have one of my trucks here, everything else is still in NY. I would be more inclined if i had everything here, this way if i break something i have parts or another truck.

DirkDigler 06-15-2004 11:11 AM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

1. just sleep while you are driving

2. you only need one truck

3. If you break something, chances are, one of us will have the replacement part.

4. See you on Saturday!

Well good luck to you guys, the weather doesn't seem to be wanting to cooperate. They said rain through to friday, saturday looks clear. I just hope you all have your trucks waterproofed.

Yea, are you gonna end up with a stream running through the course Dirk?

Are our pictures gonna look like we were at one of the Oregon events? 8O

DirkDigler 06-16-2004 02:20 PM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

I hope so!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about the weather.
Although, if a big thunderstorm passes over, we'll just lower the radio antennas and keep on crawling!!!!

Kaetwo and I are getting ready to head out to "Crawlorado". We will see you all there.

You know we drive right buy Moab on our way... we may just have to stop and play on the slickrock.

AND.... I'm thinking that in the fall the UTRCRC and the "CORCRC" should have a combined competition in Moab....huh, huh????

Grizzly4x4 06-18-2004 11:19 AM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

WoooHooo, That is awesome you guys are still coming out. Can't wait to get together. 8) Sounds like Dirk has some real truck killing stuff for us.

Yea guys get alot of pics and have fun. I'll be getting the old ball and chain atached this after noon.

DirkDigler 06-20-2004 10:28 AM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

The comp went well. the bad weather scared many away and we only had about 6 trucks. Pinchflat and Kaetwo were brave enough to drive all the way from Utah to attend!!! There was much carnage...........for Ace!!!haha I was the worst performer of the bunch!!!!!! Pinchflat won it all and received first place honors with a $50 gift cert. to Proline. The courses were very tough and proved that the clods could abuse the shafty trucks in their sleep. THere were many photos taken and tons of video shot. Pinchflat and Kaetwo are making a CD that you'll be able to get from them after it's edited. Pics will be up shortly I'm sure......mostly of my embarrassing moments!!!!! Thanks to all for coming out!

kevinlongisland 06-20-2004 10:39 AM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

now that can't be dirk, you were the worst performer of the bunch!!!!!!!! congrats pinchflat. can't wait for the pics and put me on the list for the cd.

Can't wait for the photos/videos!!! Glad to see another Comp event starting up.

Dirk... did you really have to admit this:

Now the guys with Clods will get big heads   Thankfully no Clods ever show up to our Comps.

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Lots of fun. Even though I got my ass kicked by the track and competition!

The sad truth: The clods kicked ass. Lots of momentum climbs. Steep climbs. I think El Capitan needs to stretch it's legs (wheelbase)

Seemed like every 10 feet my truck broke. Hasn't broken a thing for about 30 hours of crawling before. Go figure.

Track was insane, but lots of fun. Thanks again Pete!

Heres a pic of the rigs:

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/885..._no_e_good.jpg

Pic of Bretts Clod, notice that wheelbase!

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/6798/brett10_good.jpg

Pic of the Diggler. Everytime I see that thing the size impresses me!

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/1166/dig20_good.jpg

The Duke tackling the ditch:

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/732..._ditchgood.jpg

El Capitan tackling a climb. There were about 8 climbs like this that required lots of momentum, driving skill, torque, and a GD clod to climb! Notice the zip-tied servo mount. Notice the fixed tie-rod notice the two new rod-ends

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/3922/ec15.jpg

Matts Powerwagon clod sliding down the chute:

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/6109/matt4_good.jpg

The sad, recorded truth. This was just one section. Scoring was kept simple, 1 point for repositioning and touching a marker and 5 points for failure to go thru a gate. DNF (i.e. my truck usually) meant worst score+1

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/9619/scorepad.jpg

It was great to meet Brett and Matt from Utah, great guys! If you plan to go to one of the Utah meets, best bring your A game cause these guys can crawl!

One more. the Duke making the ditch look pretty easy:

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Yes, indeedy! I was by far the worst! :( :flipoff:

Not to make excuses but I broke my rear steering the day before while trying out the courses. If the Digler has no rear steer, it's worthless! It's too long and the tires are too large to allow it to be nimble. All in all though.....I just plain sucked yesterday!!!!! It was still fun to laugh at myself...as did everyone else! :? :flipoff:

As for the clods winning the day. Well....that was only one day and one course. The shafties will live to see another day. :flipoff: :flipoff:

MudCow 06-20-2004 09:36 PM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Yay!!! Finally you guys are strating to admit that Clods are kinda capable on the rocks :flipoff:

The fact that 90% of the guys over here have converted to Clods after failing to be competitive with shafties says something he he. 8)

Great pics! But we need more!

Grizzly4x4 06-20-2004 09:52 PM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Here are the official results of the Pro-Line Colorado Rock Crawling Competition:

Pinchflat (Clod axle): 41
Grizzly4x4 (Clod axle): 43
Kaetwo (Clod axle): 46
Ace (Custom axle): 82
DirkDigler (X-Factor axle): 83

Congratulations to Pinchflat for the win and taking home the Proline gift certificates.
Second place received a donated Magnetic Mayhem motor, but I passed it to Kaetwo since he made a longer drive than me to get there :D .

The competition was great; it was great to meet the Utah crew and see their awesome trucks and getting together with Ace and Dirk is always a blast. I hope some more people can make it to the next one, it should be a blast as well.
Thanks to Dirk for setting it up, to Pro-Line for the prizes, and to Pinchflat and Kaetwo for braving the weather and making the long drive.

I will get my pictures posted real soon here.

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Very nice guys, wish I could have made it.

I can't believe you let the guys from Utah walk away with 2 of the top 3 spots :flipoff:

Hopefully I'll be able to make the next one, although at this point in time I don't even have a truck that runs...

bustedcrawler 06-21-2004 01:04 AM

Re: Colorado Comp. June 19th

Looks like a blast. Hopefully when BD is done the TXT can show clods how it is done....

Well I will be there for one in August, got me some well needed tools to fic up the TXT. Just gotta get links and a servo mount and all the fab work will be done to the Almost Stock TXT.

Add a body and some new treads and she will be down and ready for comps...
