Sent a email to the person in control of the gorge, lets hope.

There is details all up and down on their website the area is pretty well guarded. Sierra club, army corps, ect.

That's funny Ben, because in desmoines it says you can take one fossil home per person per day. Then over here you can't do crap.
Some one needs to check out backbone.

The online pictures of backbone park don't really show any rocks. I'd go for it but it would be at least a 2 hour $45+ trip for me.

Theres also Lowden and Whitepines, I know whitepines doesnt get much visitation so they might not have a problem but i cant remember what kind of rock they have.

Mr. Wicklund,

Your email about using radio controlled trucks in the gorge was
forwarded to
me.

As you are probably aware, that area was exposed by the floods of 1993
and
has some unique geological and paleontological features. There has
been
limited development there to interpret these features to the public.
The
type of activity you described would be contradictory to the intended
use of
that area; would likely interfere with or disrupt other visitors
exploring it
and would therefore be prohibited.

The spillway can be used for running radio controlled vehicles but
would not
have the same type of obstacles. Most undeveloped areas could also be
used
but please check with us first.

You also mentioned that there were 20 or so people in your group. Any
group
size may need a special event permit depending on what they want to do.
Following are a few examples of activities that would require a permit:
If
you are doing any advertising for the event, charging any type of fees,
seeking sole use of an area or creating excessive noise which
unreasonably
disturbs others.

Thank you for inquiring about the use of this area. If you would like
more
information please let me know.
I vote we don't go there, anyone else? Just don't want to be watched all the time and have to crawl on rocks that are no fun.

Oregon is the next town over from me, no exposed rocks, all cliff bluffs and dirt at white pines. Castle rock has one huge rock formation that looks like crawler heaven. However, it's all fenced off and protected. No rocks there either. Lowden is ok my brother and I crawl there once and while. But, nothing great enough to justify holding a comp there.

Sorry to see you leave.
I just bought a house today.
I rolled the closing cost into the loan though.

Thanks for checking the park out for us. I can also post the pics for you if you would like.

Where is thumbman?

Dates for moab nationals are sept 8-9 but still have 1% chance of changing to something different. My brother and I are already souping up the trucks to get ready. Might put in a few extra GTG's or out of town comps just to prepare a little more.

Where are all our local competitors going? Our comps are getting lower and lower in number since des moines, or is it just me?

Went to Backbone today. Talked to Ranger Dave Sunne. He has no problem with us using the park for our comp but has some guidelines. As long as we are courteous to the other patrons, and not hog the area to ourselves, and leave no trace of vehicle travel i.e. tire tracks. Also if we have more than 20 competitors we have to apply for a special use permit. Another minor concern of his was parking 20 cars at the trailhead. I told him we would work with that . If we get alot of cars we can take it upon ourselves to park some of them elsewhere and carpool back to the site. The area itself shoud offer us a good comp but maybe not the large areas we are used to. There is a 2 foot crevice by 15 feet deep that will be challenging with a bridge. There are several small areas along the way for bashing on to and some really cool natural steps. I sent the pics to Cole so he could post them and I assume he will do it as soon as he can. Voice your opinions!!!

If the gear is removeable via crosspins I can fab you a new shaft. I could also weld it for you if you would like.

Mnster Cole gave me the idea to weld it but I am trying to locate someone locally that will do small piece work so far no one wants the work. Cole offered to weld it also but he is about 2 hrs drive away. I am going to keep looking around here for the rest of this week and if I can't get it done i will contact you for your welding talent.
