Modifications to my Cliff Climber.

First of all, I want to present myself my is Salvador Gonzalez from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico in the border of Mexico an USA. I'm a fanatic of the 4X4 and I have been in some competences of this sport in Mexico. And I like a lot the rock crawling and RC cars and when I saw the Cliff Climber I went to look arround the hobby Stores in McAllen, TX to find this truck until I got mine.
I started to modified the truck with Traxxas Tmaxx turnbuckles instead of the plastic suspension arms.
Then I ordered the steering aluminium link but I don't know wich rod ends to use, because I bought the Traxxas rod ends for the revo and the inner diameter is bigger than the one in those aluminium links.
Hope you could help me.

I used a Futaba HT servo and Panther Cougar Tires with memory foam and eight shooter by Pro-Line.

Here. you can see the difference between the stock tires and the Panther.

Try using Traxxas rod ends for the T-Maxx.

Part #2742X

Thanks.

Thanks man, I'll give them a try.

Norcal_GIT_r 09-09-2008 02:11 PM

That looks sweet!!!
What links are you using in the photos?
Did those wheels bolt right up to the stock hexs?

salgon 09-09-2008 03:46 PM

Thanks for your comments.
The links that I'm using are the 2.5 T-maxx rear turnbuckles part #5139 they are 118mm.
And the wheels are the Pro-Line 2.2" Eight Shooter Bead-Loc Chrome Black Wheels. The tire goes between the wheel and the aluminium ring.

JavelinSST390 09-11-2008 05:30 PM

That's not gonna flex much without any shocks....:roll:

salgon 09-12-2008 07:56 AM

You're right, it looks ugly or funny with 1 tire of each one, but that picture was just for comparisson reasons.
About the shocks, you're right. I used the stock suspension arm instead the stock shocks just to see the size of shock that I'll need. The stock ones are 2.9 inches and the ones I need, has to be of 4 inches or more. Because I used those arms (Tmaxx turnbuckles) the stock shocks were too short, and I'm looking for the ones I can fit. I've saw some larger ones, but I have not decided yet.
I'll post some more photos on the weekend to see the progress.

New pics.

Hi there, here are some new pics of the mods I've been doing to my Cliff Climber.
I installed the rear shocks and changed the rear steering links with the aluminium version from duratrax and traxxas rod ends (Thanks to Dezfan).

http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1pI...-k-JuqMXjHnMC-

The shocks are from Venom.

In this pic you can see the difference between the front and rear links.
The ines in front are from Tmaxx 2.5 (4mm) and the ones in the rear are from a Tmaxx 3.3 (5mm).

Nice setup, but you'll want to limit the flex some. Otherwise with the front shocks installed you're gonna have like 90 degrees of flex... The height of a 12oz. beer-can is just about perfect for most areas. "thumbsup"

Norcal_GIT_r 09-15-2008 07:33 PM

That looks great!!
I ordered all the links for mine.

Did you have to change the hexs to use the 2.2 wheels?

salgon 09-15-2008 07:40 PM

Wheels.

Nope, you don't have to change anything to feet those wheels. The hex on the CC are 12mm. I just put the proline eight shooter and hammer tires.

twisted 09-15-2008 10:00 PM

whats the wheel base on that ?

salgon 09-16-2008 08:08 AM

Wheel base.

12 inches from center to center of the wheels.

You're right, I'm waiting for the big bore shock mounting kit to modify the upper position of the shock, I think this will limit the travel of the shock. And need to trim the body.

salgon 09-17-2008 11:12 AM

I'm just waiting for the metal gears to install them including the bearing set in the transmission.
I just installed the ones that goes on the aluminium knuckle arms.

salgon 09-23-2008 11:17 AM

Here they are.

Some parts that I ordered from TowerHobbies:

Looking good! I just got mine last weekend but have not had a chance to try it out yet. Only thing I did was replace the body with the RJ Speed 70's Outlaw Body (Jeep CJ-5).

Lestats Ghost 10-12-2008 12:15 AM

I'm using the stock radio system (2 channel). And for the rear steering I used a servo reverser instead of the stock Y arness. It is positioned between the ESC and radio receiver. The servo reverser is from Expert Electronics EXRA325.

Right now I'm not going to upgrade the motors, because I don't want to change de esc. One thing takes to the other.

AJrc 11-06-2008 02:01 PM

what about salgons shocks? he said he got them from venom

randy1 11-06-2008 03:32 PM

i dont no but u dont want to go with anything longer than 1 in longer on that stock chasis . look at what jdawg did with his he has longer shocks on his

AJrc 11-06-2008 06:49 PM

you know where you screw the top of the shock on? i moved that down more to make it longer than less taller

randy1 11-06-2008 08:13 PM

You Want Around 3 In To The Belly Of The Chasis . That Is About The Rite Highth

AJrc 11-06-2008 09:25 PM

as soon as i put my other sus. links in i will measure. i really want to get new tires though and rims

gigercreeper 11-07-2008 08:39 PM

i jst got some hammers and hpi spike rims all 4 for around 50 bucks ultimate hobbies is having a 20% off scale on tires. has ny ran these with out the springs on the stock shocks? i think it will settle easier that way

AJrc 11-07-2008 10:26 PM

nice deal. are you talking about me on the shocks?

gigercreeper 11-08-2008 12:31 AM

ya that way with those long tmaxx shox it wouldnt sit so high in the front. does it go end over end when up a steep incline pretty easily?

AJrc 11-08-2008 09:43 AM
