Help with wiring new esc

Ok so I happened to have a hi tec esc laying around that still works. I wired it as in a Y from the esc wires to go to the front and back motors. Now the front spins foward and the rear spin backwards. Did I wire this wrong?

Sounds like you just need to switch the wires around on the motor that spins in reverse.

how do you do that? Or which wires?

Also, would this Losi esc work with a CC set up? Its cheap and probly better than the stock DTX one. Just curious, thanks.

the mini lst dual motor esc is great.... the problem is that the stock motors dont like to run with any torque @7.2-8.4 volts. so unless you find some lower voltage motors its a waste of time (how do i know? i tried it myself! haha) so to solve the problem i ran to the hobby store and had them order me up the lowest Kv rated low voltage motors. they happened to be titan 380's by traxxas. 5000kv. and they are worthless (for a crawler)

i dont think the guys have come up with any low voltage motors other than the holmes dealies. but those are pricey. find an EVX if you can.

The ability to run 2 motors isn't the big deal, just about any 1/10 scale ESC can handle 2 smaller motors. The thing, like has been mentioned, is the voltage. Are there any cheap ESC out there that can run 9-12 cells nimh or 3-4cell lipo?

So is the EVX my best option, or maybe going back to the DTX esc? I also came across the HPI GT dual motor dual battery esc. Priced about the same as the DTX esc but seems to be nicer. Its a 16.8v also I believe. Im kinda torn between the HPI GT and the EVX....I really dont want to go back to the DTX since mine broke at just 2 months. I hope to get an esc that will last longer. Thanks for the help guys!

Get a Pro Boat esc, fully waterproof, no drag brake, no reverse delay, good up to 12 volts "thumbsup" i run them in both my scalers.

Is this prewired for dual motors?

ScalerLover 07-30-2009 09:36 AM

No but its easy to make a Y-Harness.

What kind of battery packs are you running? Just a single 6 cell?

ScalerLover 07-30-2009 01:59 PM

Im running 6 cell 7.2v - 9 cell 2/3A 10.8v packs on the Pro Boat until i upgrade to 3s Lipo.

09xD 07-30-2009 02:06 PM

so your running a 6cell and 9 cell? Or just one or the other....just want to make sure I get the info right before I decide to order it....did you run them with a standard style y set up? Did you have any issues with the rear axle spinning in reverse instead of foward? This sounds like it could be a good set up for my scaler.

Jamus 07-30-2009 03:31 PM

I'm sure he means 6 or 9 as 6+9=15cell would be much more than the 12V max. That pro-boat esc is tempting but the BEC is sickly, so you'd probably need an external BEC. $40 ESC + $20 BEC and shipping. I think I saw a used EVX in the classified section for $45.

ScalerLover 07-30-2009 03:39 PM

Just one or the other for the batteries, and yes sorry i forgot to mention you DO NEED a BEC as the internal bec on these sucks hunky dorry.

IMO for around 65 bucks between the esc and bec its still a good deal compared to others because you never get the most out of an esc without a bec anyways, and second, the size comparison of this to an EVX is immense.

Also, if your front axles spins forward while pulling on the trigger for forward, and the rear axles spins backwards all you have to do is switch the leads to the rear motor. IE if the motor has a + side marked (most do) and the red positive wire is hooked there and the black negative to the other, then just switch the wires so they will be backwards IE black negative to the + side of the motor and red positive to the other side.

NOTE : only do this to the wires going from the esc to the motors !!! Not to the battery !!!!

Not trying to call anyone stupid... but you sound kinda new to this :D

09xD 07-30-2009 04:21 PM

LOL yeah still new to the esc thing...Ill have to try and see if I can get this esc to work...might not have to spend anything...but thanks for the info from everyone...I found an evx for about 55 shipped on RCU and if this doesnt work im all over it.
