| 2.2 decided it was a good day for a swim... whats bad?
hey guys, Was out at my local killer spot, its a huge shear of beautiful rocks right next to a very large salt water sound. Took my buddy(never been crawling) and he got done running our course, than turned off the the radio. As he did this the swx took off and the went for a 7 to 10 second swim.I jumped in (probably not smart with the wicked current around there) rescued it and started cussing, alot. Not mad at the friend, should have told him bout the quarks of the rig. I took everything apart, no water in axles trans case or servos. So What of my electronics will be trashed? axiom 45t motor Sidewinder ESC CC BEC? i imagine this will be shot Airtronics 3ch fm reciever(popped cover off to dry) Servos (Hitec 985mg and spektrum z590 no water at all in cases) batterys? 8 cell 2/3 split pack How long would you guys wait to start plugging in electronics to see if they work? To let the water dry. |

I would suggest waiting at least 24 hours. This happened to me last year and I got lucky. After everything dried out, nothing was fried. Good luck. |

Like he said at least 24 hours. If you have a air compressor give it a shot too. I would be most worried about the esc and reciever. I've had bad luck with recievers getting just barely damp (like a small puddle) and being toast. Good luck. I feel for ya. I've been there too many times before lol The battery and the motor should be perfectly fine. The servos will brobably survive also |

You do know shock came off right? But yah, wait til it all looks dry, then wait another 3-5 hours after, just to be positively sure. |

The sidewinder should be fine, it's got a comformal coating on the circuit boards, and the motor too, but I'd relube the bearings. I'd pull the electronics and wash the rest of the truck off, saltwater=corrosion You're lucky you live close to that spot, ever go up to Mt. Erie?...I love that place!!! |

I would think it would be a good idea to get the salt water out, even if it means geting things wet again. MOST electronics can take some water if there is no power source hooked up. I think that salt water corrosion is going to be your next issue if you haven't already shorted anything out. I would run clean water over everything that may have been exposed to salt water then let it completely dry.

Distilled water works great for washing them off because there's no minerals to build up and leave behind.

mt erie is sweet nice lines up there for sure. After talking to some freinds i like the idea of rinsing it all with the distilled water. What do you guys think of using alcohal to clean everything. it would totally rinse it and is semi safe like stated as long as no power is applied.

Fresh water rinse and wait 24 hours to dry. Relube every ball bearing and exposed metal. Did you immediately disconnect power to the system right after you got it out of the water? If so, you should be ok. My buddy's rig did the same thing into a tidepool. First we immediately removed power to the rig. Fresh water rinse of everything, and let it dry. He was lucky to get everything working within an hour of drying everything. Good luck. |

Denatured also works great as a degreaser so you will definitely need to re-lube anything it touches.

Hey guys, sorry for the long update. Leaving on deployment tomorrow for a few months. Carnage: Speed control Airtroncis 3 channel reciever The reason for ESC being bad i imagine is since it had power through it when it dived in it fried with the current going through it. i have cleaned All units with alcohol, dried for 48 hours, with no luck. Used a spektrum system that i had here and diagnosed the speed control. Than used a known good working rooster crawler esc and no luck on radio. CC BEC is still good. Of course the servos are good and the entire rig just needed to be cleaned. Now i will have to shop around to find some good deals, I think the Airtronics RDS8000 crawler edition is in my future, supers and my 2.2 will love that radio. Also gonna have to shop for an esc probably a tekin FXR, but after reading everyones posts seem that people have hard times with it randomly. who knows. Any suggestions. And thanks for the great ideas. Go NAVY |
