Default Hot batts and motor????

Got a question to pose to all of you smart guys. I have an Axial scorpion with a 50t motor (2 weeks old), Rooster crawler esc and I run two 7 cell and one 8 cell split pack Elite 1500 2/3A NIMH batteries. Lately they (all cells, all 3 batteries) have been heating up to where I can barely handle them and only have been getting about 20-30 min of run time. I charge them on 1 amp and they dont get hot. Also my motor was very hot today. My gearing in 87/20 at the tranny.

My question is why is this and what to do to remedy it?

Thanks for any input.

How old are your batteries? Mine only lasted about 30-40 charges

You may want to use a smaller pinion or a bigger spur. My 1.5 cents.

I was thinking the gearing was a little high and making heat too.

Gearing? Well,I've run a 35t on 18/87 before. It was a good Holmes Handwound though, big difference. Was a touch to tall, but it worked and was a blast to run. Batteries never got warm, motor might have gotten a touch warm at times. 16/87 seems to be perfect for that motor IMO.

Gear mesh may be a little tight. Try to loosen up your gear mesh a touch and drop a tooth or two off the pinion. That should help allot.

Thanks for the suggestions. I loosened up the spur yesterday so I will let you know if that helps later. It has deans end and 1 om my batts has maybe 8 charges and the other 2 maybe 20. If that doesnt help I guess I will got a smaller spur gear.

That'll make it worse.

You want a smaller pinion.

Well I went out and tested and it worked. Well part ways. My batteries didnt get as hot but I only got 22 min on 1 and 15 min on the other. These were my oldest batteries so I am going to test my newest one tomorrow to see if it still has a short life.
