DX3r has a 3 position 3rd channel, the DX3S has 2 position.

I believe that the DX3r is DSM2 and works with DSM1 Rxs. The DX3s only works with DSM1 Rxs.

The DX3r has no telemetry (live feedback such as temperature battery voltage, etc..) The DX3S does.

  • Patent pending ModelMatch
  • Digital trims
  • Graphically depicted exponential
  • Graphically depicted travel adjustment
  • Trim rate adjustment
  • Steering dual rate
  • Steering dual rate override
  • Frame rate
  • Servo monitor
  • Switch assignment
  • Model reset
  • Model copy
  • Sub Trims
  • Three timer functions: countdown, count up and integrated
DX3S:

  • Includes free bonus SR300 3-channel DSM sport receiver
  • Monitor your engine or motor’s operating temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius
  • Never let a low battery stop you in your tracks – the DX3S and integrated telemetry let you watch over your receiver pack’s voltage to keep you in the running
  • Keep tabs on your engine’s operating range-safe high-rev operation
  • Rolling selector user interface for fast, easy programming and setup
  • 10-character model naming
  • 3 grip sizes (small, medium, large)

  • Digital trims
  • Throttle Punch
  • Steering dual rate

  • Telemetry alerts
  • Buzzer adjustments - high, low & off
  • Screen contrast
  • Transmitter battery alert
  • Right-hand configuration (only)
I've also heard that the scroll wheel on the 3S is weak. As far as receivers...you can bind any Spektrum Rx with the 3R, but you cannot use a DSM2 Rx with any other Spektrum transmitter other than the 3R.

The 3S is very comfortable in hand, but the 3R is a better choice overall. I'd suggest installing the Big Grip if you go that route...

DX3R Big Grip

DSM1 is the older tech 2.4 from Spektrum meaning the frame rates are slower then on the DSM2 stuff.

For the pro racer types makes a difference when the car is moving fast, for us crawler folks, probably not really noticable.

I don't think that it will. Sr3100 is a DSM2 reciever and I belive those only work with the DX3R.

My DX3S scroll wheel has not broke yet. I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Since my 9yr old is rough on every thing!!

I have the dx3s and have had zero problems with the scroll button. 3 of my friends have the dx3s and have had no problems either. I would rather be able to view the brushless motors temp from my controller, then have the 30 model memory of the dx3r.
