Default VXL motor question

My friend and I came across this the other day when my new waterproof VXL esc came in.

My old VXL motor looks the same as his new waterproof VXL combo motor. The front of the can is solid blue. However, the pics on Traxxas show a silver end for the front (output end) of the motor.

Here's Traxxas' pic

Here's my motor (same as my friend's)

Do we have the waterproof motor? or the non-waterproof motor?
Anyone have the motor shown in the Traxxas pic?

I think when they talk about being waterproof, they are talkn about the esc, not so much the motor. Just shoot some wd40 on it to repel the water and keep the bearings lubd and you should be good to go.

OK, well I just ran a pack down and it is very wet outside. Lots of puddles and I had no issues. Got the motor and everything else dry with comp. air.

Just seems wierd they show a pic of the old motors on the site.

It's in a Slash. I recently put some RockLizards on a spare set of axial Beadlocks. Fun stuff!

I have 3 brand new waterproof (marked on box and esc) Velineon systems. All of them have motors with blue faces.

its the waterproof motor..water resistant anyway..even the pic on the box shows the old style mtr..the new mtr is sealed..much easier to do with the new can..less places for water to get in like the previous mtr
