Zip Tie tip

For those of us who use have been scratched by the cut ends of zip ties.

Cut the ends square with about an 1/8" sticking out. Use a lighter to
lightly melt the end, it will round the sharp edges.

im in electrical and use tie wraps a lot in my work as well as on my rigs,,twist them off and they wont scratch too,,just grab them close to the buckle with some needle nose pliers and twist til they break off

You don't have that problem with ducktape.

LMAO!!! J/K that is a pretty good tip and alot less messy than ducktape. "thumbsup"

I've done that too, but some times the locking tooth twists and it doesn't hold any more. (depending on the zip tie)

Thanks for the tip.
I use Flush Cutters from Harbor Freight - dirt cheap, no flame near sensitive areas.

RuberDuck 12-07-2009 10:46 PM

i just use a zip tie gun...i pulls the tie really tight!

I never thought of using a lighter... but I have used a file before...

Sydwaiz 12-08-2009 04:02 PM

I'm a MAN, and don't have sensitive skin.8)

Soldering iron also works. I do alot of custom wiring on wheelin rigs--and its not easy or smart to use a lighter under a dash--soldering iron works too or a micro torch "thumbsup"

X2

If you're getting roughed up by a zip tie, you might want to get the balerina slippers back out of the closet...:|

Tis but a flesh wound!

runnerover 12-09-2009 12:36 AM

Depends on the size of the zip tie. Little ones = scratch, bigger ones blood squirts everywhere.

I use RC airplane foam wire holders"thumbsup" They stick where you want them to and the wires just pop in them! No need to mess with zip ties at all with them"thumbsup"

hende 12-09-2009 04:08 AM
