| 7.4V to Servo
Ok, I've never run a servo that was rated at 7.4V......until now. Currently, I have a 7950 setup with a CC BEC set to 6.0V and wired how Castle recommends (connector plugged into Rx [Nomadio Transceiver] with red ESC wire pulled). So, my question is how to actually get 7.4V to the servo. If I simply reprogram the BEC for 7.4V, will that actually make it through the Rx or will it still only give an output of 6.0V? To get the full voltage, does the BEC need to be wired directly to the servo (not something that I am wanting to do)? Thanks! |

if you put 7.4v to the RX, you'll probably make smoke, the only way to get 7.4v to the servo is to run the power and ground wires directly from the bec, to the servo, then run the servo signal wire to the RX. do not cut the bec signal wire, just remove it from the end and tape it up, you will need it for programming later. Yes, I am very familiar with how to wire up a BEC and how/why it is necessary. I was simply looking for a good method to get that amount of voltage to the servo and was not sure what the output of the Nomadio Transceiver is to the servo. Since Nomdaio is not supporting RC anymore, I cant ask them what voltage their Rx will handle or what the output is..

I dont know about nomadio but futaba rates their rx at 9v iirc....but I still hard wire my 7980 and all my crawler steering servos straight to the bec pos and neg leads...then signal to the rx...

I believe output is regulated down though after it hits the RX so you'd be defeating your intentions. Got any burnt servos? You could just cut the leads and connect them to a voltmeter, little wiggle wiggle and you can see the voltage

| I can't find a spec on output...I figured if input max was 9v then it will output the same volts safely?? Either way ifyou hard wire the bec straight to the servo you won't have to worry about letting the smoke out of your rx's... My old spektrum rx was always glitching and tweaking until I hardwired my bec to the servo...soon as I hardwired it stopped and that's the only way I will wire my crawlers now... Yeah I know probably not much info to help you. But if you hardwire you should be good no matter what specs your rx has.. |

Yeah, not really what I was looking to do, but I guess that is what is necessary...

you should eb able to make this pretty easy with just a basic Y connector. just cut the wires where the red lines are intersecting the wires (pretend blue is white) Last edited by T3rry; 12-03-2010 at 12:32 PM. |

Not sure what the big deal with hardwiring is but IMHO that's the best way to handle a 7.4v servo.

I just pull two of the leads out of the servo plug...jut lift the tabs on the plug..then use two really small paper clip pieces to but the pos+ & neg- leads together and just cover it with a small piece of elect tape.. No bulky y adapters and no cutting up your servo lead or bec lead.. Just a simply clean install that feeds your servo with gobs of clean power. |

I just take a heavy duty Y harness, cut the female ends off, solder and shrink tube them together. End up with a female-female adapter.

Servo side Stock servo female ends with two small paer clip pieces inserted in the ends Note I have one wrap of tape around the exposed female servo leads to keep the pos and neg from shorting out on each other. Bec end is completely stock here is the servo plugged into the bec The stock servo plug with the signal wire is plugged into the rx So you need nothing more to program the bec other then to unplug the servo... To program the servo you would have to pull the tape and unplug the paper clips and just plug the +/- leads back into the stock servo plug.. Clear as mud? I can get other pics if you need Last edited by 53 willys; 12-03-2010 at 01:09 PM.

i personally prefer the extra Y harness, that way you can just unplug everything and it's just like new. Just unplug the bec and you can do your programming. Last edited by T3rry; 12-03-2010 at 02:28 PM. |

| This is how I have my servos/bec wired, works good. just unplug a couple plugs and you're good as new for programming. |
