*NEW* Tekin RS lost power

I just bought and hooked up my first Tekin product (RS standard, not pro) I installed the capacitor correctly and the solder joints are perfect. I was testing it on the bench (not even in the truck) and I calibrated the transmitter. At first, motor worked fine. I tuned the ESC via the buttons on top for drag brake and lipo cutoff. I then hooked up the servo (Hitec 985) and tested the servo strength. Everything was perfect for about 5-10 seconds, then the servo got very sluggish. The light on the receiver (spektrum) did not flicker. The lights on the ESC did not flicker or give any kind of error code. I swapped batteries just to check and I get no response from the ESC now. I tried a 2s battery also, no difference. It gives me no response at all now.

Any ideas? I am totally lost and I have never had a Tekin product before.

Components used:

Brand new Teken RS
Hitec 985 servo
Spektrum DX3e
3s venom (and tried a 2s flight power)
Novak 17.5 sensored brushless (with new hall wires)

What did you set the lipo cut off too?

Have you unhooked the motor and tried powering up?

Messed with the power switch?

Solder joints good? Battery connection good?

Charge your 3S pack, unplug the servo & try again.
If you try the 2S, is the LiPO LVC set to 3S? That could explain why it didn't work on that one.

It is possible the servo is bad causing issues, not sure though.

Does the steering work when the ESC is dead?
Did you try to recalibrate the ESC to the RX? (Yes it seemed OK, try it again).
Did the motor or ESC get hot during this?

I did not think about that. I pluged the battery in again this morning and it powered up, but the servo still gets sluggish quickly then everything shuts down. I'll try another servo and see what happens. Thanks for the help guys

I swapped servos to a hitec HS-7955TG and the problem almost went away. I feel like it needs an external BEC. Now I am getting the "all LEDs flashing" indicating that the ESC has lost radio signal. That makes me think that it does not have the power to keep the receiver running. Any thoughts on running a castle BEC with the Tekin RS?

Yes, it really sounds like you need an external BEC, a CC 10A BEC should be fine.
No issues that I'm aware of running that BEC with that ESC. I run the BEC direct to the servo, others go through the RX. Shrug.

Plenty of diagrams around here on how to wire it either way.8)

Mine would not run a 7955 very long. Sounds like a BEC is needed. Downfall I, there's been a some people having problems with the 10a castle becs and rs's wtih 212 programming.

Hmmmm....good catch, I don't normally check the ESC brand/model as we tend to run CC & FX-R's almost exclusively.:roll:8)

OP, also make sure your steering EPA's are set correctly.

Wow, you guys are great. I searched Tekin RS and several different variants trying to get info but never found that thread. Thanks a ton, I'm off to the hobby shop now. I'll try to update tonight.
