Did I fry my B1R?

So here's the scoop: I was letting a buddy drive my MRC, about 15 mins in he tells me he can't go forward anymore. He wasn't doing anything I wouldn't do as far as driving and the motor/esc resembled temps that I had encountered before. (Based on feel, I didn't have a temp gun handy.)

I let it cool down for a good hour and experienced the same results, I had reverse and full steering but no forward. I might also add that when going in reverse I no longer had drag brake like I did before.

When I got home I plugged in my hotwire and double checked my settings. They were slightly different than my notes said they should be so I adjusted them and updated my esc. Nothing changed, still no forward and no drag brake. Steering still working fine as was reverse.

I then recalibrated the rx/tx thinking something may have went wrong there, still no change. I plugged in my hot wire again and re-updated the esc...yet again no change.

I guess my question is have you guys/gals had anything like this happen? I know the B1Rs aren't the most robust esc and it's probably toast. I just wanted to double check before I decide on my next move...most likely upgrading to a FXR.

On this rig I am running a losi insane motor on 2s with a 12t pinion.

How old is the motor? Wear wise?

The motor was new in January and does not have too much run time on it. Can a motor wear out or malfunction to where it will only move in one direction?

How are the brushes?

I was unaware the brushes could be removed for inspection in a disposable motor such as the insane. Am I incorrect in thinking this motor is not serviceable?

Just pop the spring off and pull the brush out like you would on a rebuildable 540. If the brush is two short it could be shifting from having not enough length left to properly align it in the hood.
This is the motor you have, correct?

Yep, that's the one. I'll do some checking.

Thanks

It could, brushes may be worn poorly and be shifting in the hood like Nigel said.

Check the brushes and look in on the com to see what it looks like.

Also with motor removed hook up a double a battery to it running in both directions and see what it does.

Yeah when I get a chance I'll pull the motor and brushes. Then I'll hook a volt meter to the esc. I'm hoping the motor is shot, I would rather replace or upgrade the cheap motor.

Thanks all!!
