Default r2 tranny gets suuuper hot.. help!!!

i have an rc4wd r2 tranny in my scx10 . i just put a new 35 t motor with a 12 tooth pinion in it today and the whole set up gets very hot and almost smells like fresh cut metal. does it need to be greased more? im not really sure what it could be. thanks!

I would definitely open it up, check the grease and for any tightness. It sounds to me like something is too tight inside there. I wouldn't expect it to be getting warm at all.

There's a guy in the wraith section that had bearing failure and sheared the output.

Fix it and sell it is my advice.
