Default Electronic problem

I just finished wiring my clod crawler.
Running a TR2, 55t lathes, and a Traxxas receiver.

It will crawl fine on flat ground but if it tries to climb a wall or something with resistance it just stops and makes a clicking sound. Also if I go to full reverse it will just stop and do the same clicking sound.

I dont have any capacitors on the motors (do I need them?).

Only thing I can think of is the battery I am using is just a old pack that was charged with a standard plug in charger nothing fancy.

Anyone else ever have this happen??
Thanks
-Chris

Im pretty sure the battery wasnt charged up.
I charged it for about a hour and it worked better then after 30 minutes or so it started going to crap. So im going to charge it all night and see how it is in the morning.

What size pinion are you using? and are you using an adjustable mount?

9T and 8T pinions. I ground the case to get them to mesh.

The clicking sound leads me to think that either your mesh is wrong or the pinion is slipping on the motor shaft.

How old was the battery? If it's real old,it's probly NICD and would probly work better if you could cycle the pack. Might be better to get a NIMH pack of good quality and a good charger. Is there anyway you can get or borrow a good pack and get a decent charger to try it with?

Thats what I thought alos but it isnt, the pinions dont turn at all. It just like its not getting enough power.

Its pretty old. It is a NIMH pack but its only 1600mh. I need to buy a good pack and charger so ill try that first and see what happens.

I had the same problem with my first clod crawler and it was the battery. Also it is always good to run 3 caps on each motor and route wiring, esc's, and rx's away from interference. One other weird thing I've seen is when re-assembling a clod gear box if you use the wrong length screw on the axle tube brace where it attaches to the side of the gearbox it can contact your spur gear and chew it up pretty good.

Just picked up a digital Piranha charger and a 3900niMh pack. So hopefully that will make it all work.
