New to lipo, need help!! 2 Attachment(s) Ok, just got a new lipo charger for my new Zagi-33's 3S 2100mah batt. The batt tells me I can charge this at 10.5a (5C) is that safe?! What should I be charging this at? Attachment 289218 Attachment 289219 |
Re: New to lipo, need help!! 5C is a common charge rate MAX. I only charge and 3C max, just a personal preference. 2.2amps is 1C 4.4=2c 6.6=3c you get the idea... |
I'm using a Team Tenergy charger. I'll charge it at 3c |
I prefer to charge at 1c, but I am never in a hurry. |

Re: New to lipo, need help!! I charged once at 5.0A using a 3s 2200mah/30C After the charge had completed... a coupla' minutes went by... then all of a sudden the pak began to swell. when I realized what was occurring... I ran outside with the LiPo and placed it on the cement patio. In another 30 seconds it burst... then caught fire ! I use a Hobby People TAZR auto detect LiPo charger that allows the amps to be adjusted. but I now charge mine at 2.1A (1c) as I didn't like the outcome of that LiPo burst. I have not had that re-occur since... and I have more then a few of this particular 3s LiPo. I don't mind the wait... as I usually charge up my all of my LiPo's the evening prior to the day's use. But then... it was pointed out to me that I have cheap batteries and that was to blame. Most mfgr's/distributor's will not warranty a LiPo that has burst and burned to ash. Justifiably, because there is no evidence remaining, after it bursts and burns, to verify whom was the mfg'r/dist. Fast, high amp charges will also reduce the life cycles of the LiPo. So a slower charge at lower amps is less stressful to the LiPo pak and will improve it's consumable life (cycles). to each their own of course. I have a 2s 5000mah/60C that I regularly charge at 5.0A and that has never been of issue. Regardless, I would never charge my LiPo's at any higher amps then what is recommended by the mfg'r and labeled on the LiPo. And even then... I prefer a slower, safer charge. |
