| Voltage reg. with Novak XRS.
I'm running a XRS esc on my rig with two servos (one steering and one for a winch). I know the BEC is 1A @ 6.0 volts I think. With the servo plugged in, sometimes when the truck gets in a bind, even when not using the winch, it dies. I'm thinking it doesn't have enough BEC's to pull everything but my question is, can I use a voltage regulator on my XRS to correct the problem without burnign it up, instead of a Rx pack. One like this. http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-21.html Last edited by scruff007; 12-27-2006 at 11:28 PM. |

you have to cut the red wire on youre ESC to bypass the Esc's BEC. other than that you should be fine.

I have a Novak nitro regulator on the way and had a question before I get it. Do I still need to cut the red wire from the ESC before I hook up the regulator?

I run the same regulator you have ordered and yes you have to cut the red wire.

why would u have to cut the red wire on your esc. when the instruction tell's you what the unit does and does'nt say anything about cutting the red wire from your esc to by pass the esc bec, i'm running a novak superduty esc with it and i can notice a big difference now verses when i didn't have it. or i'm i missing something? JMO. this is what i got from their site: Tech NoteNOTES FROM OUR TECH DEPARTMENT This is the Novak Nitro Servo Regulator. FEATURES: Ideal for use with higher voltage requirements of steering servos used with large nitro vehicles Handles input voltages of 6.0-8.4V DC providing safe and consistent power of 6.0V at 3.0A to the receiver and servo allowing optimum performance of the electronics throughout the charge of the battery Also protects electronics from high voltage levels of 2-cell LiPo packs (do not use with more than 2 cell Lithium Polymer applications because of the higher voltage these batteries produce) 120 day limited warrantyINCLUDES: One Novak Nitro Servo Regulator with ON/OFF switch, power wires and receiver harness, instruction sheet, Novak sticker sheet and two pieces double sided tape REQUIRES: Connecting to battery pack and receiverSPECS: Length: 1" (25mm) Input Voltage: 6.0-8.4V DC Width: 0.67" (17mm) (5-7 NiCd/NiMH (1.2VDC/cell) or 2 LiPo Thickness: 0.27" (7mm) cells) Weight: 0.53oz (15g) Power Output: 6.0V, 3.0A Protection: Reverse Voltage, Thermal/Current Overloads jxs 12/23/04 ir/jxs Last edited by goingvertical; 12-31-2006 at 08:10 PM. |

If the Novak XRS has a 6V 1A BEC and you use the Novak regulator in conjuction with the XRS BEC you'll put the two in parallel with one another when you plug the regulator into the RX. This will give you a theoretical combined 6V 4A BEC. The Mamba 25s I use on my Stick have 1.5A BECs. I turn them both on which gives me a 3A BEC. |

so it's like adding 1amp(esc) + 3amp(voltage reg) = 4amp total output?

Yes. Current is additive in parallel, voltage is constant. |

So I wire the ESC and regulator wires that go to the Rx into one plug? Is that correct?

No. Just plug them in. There's no need to destory stuff to make it work. Plug the regulator into an empty slot on the RX...like the batt slot. |

Let me see if I'm clear here. I'll plug the reg. into the batt slot on Rx and plug XRS into throttle slot on Rx. CUT NO WIRES. Sounds simple of course. Do I turn both switches on? I just wanted to make sure be fore I started because I've read many posts with different answers. I'm no pro at RC electronics. What did you mean by "Put the two in parallel with one another? Thanks JIA. Last edited by scruff007; 01-01-2007 at 09:17 PM. |

plug regulator wire into bec/batt slot on esc leave the esc switch off, and turn on the regulator switch, thats how mine's setup and i have no problems with it.
