Looking for a new power plant for my Super, need your help

Hi,

So after deeply disappointed out of Hobbywing system: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/elect...ml#post5291712
I've decided that it's time to go for quality.
I wish to keep my budget as low as possible so no crazy high end stuff..
I saw that there are a few favorites here in this forum like the Fxr or Holmes Hobbies or even the sidewinder, but they are a little too expensive for my taste.
I found on ebay a good deal (just under 200$) for Novak M2 dig combo with Novak Rock Star motors which looks interesting.
What do you guys think about this combo?
Do I have any other/better options for under 200$ (motors included)?

Thanks,
Alon

I have been running Tekin FXR's for nearly 8 year without any issues. Same goes with my micro mamba max.

If a sidewinder is out of your price range, then its honestly time to rethink this hobby.

How has the really cheap stuff worked out? From your thread not so well.

And Novak is nothing more than the junk you bought at 10x the price. Just having a Novak sticker near electronics can cause things to burst into flames.

For a pair of smashed holmes br minis and a pair of the crawl master experts is $217 as a combo. That's all quality stuff.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I will definitely won't go for Novak M2.

So to sum up my options:
Mamba micro X - 167$
Mamba micro pro - 186$
Sidewinder micro - 120$
Fxr - 205$
Holmes hobbies BR mini - 170$
Holmes hobbies BR mini dual - 180$
Holmes hobbies BR mini dual + TorqueMaster sport 540 40T - 225$
All prices include shipping and are for two ESC's (the last one includes also the motors).

From budget perspective I will prefer the sidewinder micro for 120$ but is it good enough?
Does the other options has a notable advantages over the Sidewinder?

Or should I just give Hobbywing last chance for 20$...

P.s. My motors are:

Ive never had a problem with novak. I might have bought the only working product from them. I have a novak terra claw 35t motor for about two years now. And a 8.5t sensored brushless novak in my scx10 with Zero problems. Like i said it might have been the only one good product from them, but i have it. The Hobbywing imo sucks. I wanna go for the fxr 40t pro next. $150 on Ebay with motor and esc

Sidewinders are great. If your gonna smash them you can buy the holmes br mini dual and let him do it. I like doing my own and saved some cash with the sidewinders.

Re: Looking for a new power plant for my Super, need your help

Can someone summarize a list of pros and cons for each one of the ESCs?
It will be very helpful.
For now I can't see a reason of going with the more expensive options over the relatively cheap Sidewinder.
By the way I noticed that the sidewinder and BR mini doesn't have heat sinks, how does the ESC dissipates heat?

That can be a problem for me since my usual runtime is around 2 hours..

Mini controllers sink most heat through the wires, which is why we use larger wire on the BR mini as compared to other similar sized ESCs.

Re: Looking for a new power plant for my Super, need your help

So could they survive a hot day in Israel (100F) for 2-2.5 hours runtime with a 1/8 crawler (berg gear) with 35-45T motors?
Just don't want to find out the hard way..
