Anyone using SMC lipo 3s batteries in a 2.2 rig? The reason I ask is because I've been using Turnigy 3s 2200mAh 60c packs and after a few runs they start to swell. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm trying to find a good affordable battery and the SMC stuff seems reasonable. Thanx! |

Never used SMC packs, but I have never heard a anything but praise for them. I am planning on getting new packs soon, and they will be SMCs.

SMC's are good, but usage that swells a Turnigy will eventually swell an SMC. Are you discharging past 3.5v? Do you leave them fully charged or discharged for >1 day? Do you store them at 3.8v, or at least >3.7v and <4v?

I have maybe a dozen SMC lipos; half of them are probably 3s. All hard cases...no swelling at all after a bunch of cycles (kids, bashing). Hydrocarbon is right- store them when not going to use for a while. Made this mistake years ago and found the packs were beyond balancing and swollen- had to trick them into even taking a charge when we wanted to use them but ironically they all ended up balancing just fine.

Turnigy batteries do not swell after a few runs if you use them correctly...
