Re: Castle 4 Too bad it doesn't have the BEC from the Mamba X! |

Re: Castle 4 I was pushing for a better BEC but I didn't get what I wanted. Good news for crawlers, it comes with a tweaked version 2.02 firmware. So it has the same drag brake and low speed running as the Mamba X. This will be a great controller for running sensorless motors like the Holmes revolver motor or for brushed motors. |
Re: Castle 4 Same ****ty on/off switch... You guys could make them easy to remove and still look nice at least. Does it have the same high voltage lockout as the microx? |
Re: Castle 4 Quote:
Yes, 3s limited because it is a linear BEC. |
Re: Castle 4 Sounds like a future Crawler Edition based off of it with the improvements/desires mentioned in this thread could be a great idea... It's nice for what it is, though. I have a Mamba Monster X and a Mamba X, but I also have a HobbyWing QuicRun 1080 - they're all great for certain situations. Something in the middle ground price & capability-wise would be sweet! |
Re: Castle 4 Quote:
The hobbywing 1080 is all you need for brushed crawling and the Mamba X is all you need for brushless. In between is either a waste or simply not enough. For example the hobbywing XR8 sct is nice and less $ than the Mamba X but you miss out on the crawler / rock racer mode and waterproof. |
Re: Castle 4 I love my SV3 for brushed crawling! What is the difference between sv3 and the sv4? |

Re: Castle 4 Surprised they didn’t add sensored option not that all the motors are sensored. |

Re: Castle 4 Oh...well "officially" not I haven't tried with my micro x, but I've never had a problem with the Micro Sidewinder or Mamba Micro Pro on 4s. I thought maybe aux was disabled when using 4s or something. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk |

Re: Castle 4 Quote:
The internals are suppose to be able to handle 4-5s but they still lock it down. |
Re: Castle 4 Quote:
There are 2 types of BECs; Linear and Switching. Linear is much less expensive because it is typically 3-5 components. It provides a very stable voltage with very little electrical interference(important for people running GPS or video transmitters). The downsides are that it has very limited output amperage and that it works by turning the extra voltage into heat. The higher the input voltage, the hotter it runs. Switching BECs are much more complicated and substantially more expensive. The linear BEC on the Sidewinder 4 has 4 parts, the switching BEC on the Mamba X has 43. They lower the voltage by pulsing a MOSFET through an inductor and into a capacitor to maintain the lower voltage. |

Does the X series of ESCs run brushed motors? I really can't think of a reason why I'd choose the SV4 over the X. |
Re: Castle 4 Had they upgraded the BEC this would be a huge win for things like the Slash, but I don't see a point to running one of these in a scale truck. The Hobbywing 1080 OWNS this thing in the brushed department, and if we're running brushless it has to be sensored. This will apply to the limited crowd of Revolver runners in my opinion. This still appears to be a basher's ESC, which is fine I suppose. But I don't get updating it without actually updating much. |
