Reefs triple 5 not centering...

Just bought a reefs triple 5 to replace my savox, and it refuses to center up no matter what I do.... any thoughts other than i have to go buy a radio that supports endpoint adjustment???

Everyone talked me into dropping savox for these and I will say super quiet and strong but this is driving me nuts. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9666b075a7.jpg

Retun it... and buy hitec or another savox servo. That servo looks like a holmes hobbies knockoff.

I loved my savox 1283sg till the inside of the case exploded. All though this thing is quiet and fast. Just wont center up. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...993fdf110d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...56181b1634.jpg

Maybe a better radio is your answer.. but imo it should center if your savox centered probably something wrong with the reef servo

Dlux has some more of the Savox 1290’s at $120.
Hands down the toughest you will ever meet in a standard sized servo.
Use the code as shown

I've heard good things about reefs servos, what radio are you using? I would contact reefs about this.

Spektrum dx2e shitty I know. But my savox horns always lined up center.

I got it to work out my horns just crooked put i got equal distance turning both ways at least.

You could try playing around with the length of the steering linkage to get it centered, though really a radio that can at least trim the steering would be handy.

Oh and I think your wording is confusing people, Your Reefs servo works fine you just dont have a way of trimming it to get it centered, correct?

No radio has trim.

Had to rotate horn a tooth to get proper left right equal turning. All my savox kept the horn pointed str8 down and equal turning in both direction. Almost like this one is off a tooth internally.

Re: Reefs triple 5 not centering...

what have you done to center the servo so far?
When installing a servo you should set the radio end points to zero then turn the car on, so that the servo centers correctly, then attach the servo horn so that the wheels are straight.
If you attach the servo horn first, with out finding center... well that's a good way to burn up and break stuff.

If you feel its a teeth are half a tooth off that should be easily remedied by throttle trim to get the servo horn pointed straight down.

As HumboldtEF said changing the length of the servo to spindle linkage by going in and out half a turn so that center is actualy center is a good way to adjust, so your new horn position centered would not be vertical as before.
You could also try changing the link to a different hole in the servo horn. I prefer to the set the servo trim to 150% (not all radios support this) then use shortest servo horn I can manage and still get full steering travel at the wheels. It's like lowering the gear ration and gives you more steering torque in the end.
If you really need the servo horn to be vertical, you could take the top of the servo off and rotate the inside gears a tooth then put it back together, could take a few tries, the get it where you like it. but since all the gears have a different number of teeth you can change that. I woulden't tho too much work.

The way I was taught 30 years ago. Turn radio on set trim to zero turn car on let servo find center.... build steering linkage from there.....

Not the first person Ive heard to have an issue with reef bros. If you were gonna drop that kinda cash, should just get a 2290sg. more torque, less voltage requirement.

Re: Reefs triple 5 not centering...

I think I've had maybe 2 servos & horns line up in a perfect direction ever. Too many variables between both.

I have a 555, it is anything but fast. You want the bad ass on the block get a 2290.

If the issue is that its not straight up and down, because of the length of the upper steering arm, you can go to lowes or home depo and buy 3/16 steel rod and thread the ends at the length you want.
Or possibly try the longer revo rod ends. Part# TRA5525 Traxxas Rod Ends w/Hollow Balls (12)

It's not the length of the rods....

When you place the horn on the servo it should be a perfect 0, 90, 180, 270, 360 position and have full swing in both directions.

In order to get full swing I need to rotate one more tooth which tells me something inside isnt right, or I need a fancy radio which is just dumb, as my savox never gave me this issue with the most basic radios.

It wont let me post the video.

Re: Reefs triple 5 not centering...

I have had a lot of different servos by a lot of different manufacturers and it is rare that I have one line up perfectly straight with 0 trim. I dont think it is possible to have one line up perfectly at every 90 degrees...25 splines to line up.

Re: Reefs triple 5 not centering...

Missing what's going on here guys.

Put servo horn on at 90degree.

It should swing say 45degrees one way 45 degrees the other

Not 50 degrees one way 30 degrees the other...

The trim from your radio will compensate for any misalignment no?
