You CANNOT solder batteries with REGULAR Solder.

You need Solder that is for Batteries

how big is the tip? If it holds enough heat you are fine. If it is a tiny little torch it probably wont work.

Will it cause damage in the short/long period? If so would it blow the cells?

No.. Chances are it won't stick very good, if at all... And if it does stick, it'll break after a while... I used to used plumber solder and had issues with the joints just breaking off... I went to electronics grade resin core solder and haven't had a joint break yet...

I use Deans solder. The only solder with lead and silver that I can find. Works like a dream.

heat up the terminal a bit and then apply solder on the terminal.

if that does not work then apply the solder at the tip of the iron while on the terminal as soon as it melts then quickly move the solder to the melting area of the solder on the terminal.

Proper soldering is:
1.Pre tin the connections
2. apply heat to wire/terminal
3. apply solder to connection

You want a close tight fit with a shiny solder finish not clumpy or dull finish

TIP place alligator clip or similiar on connections to hold pieces while solder is being supplied

Guns SUCK !

Deans is good, but done let them fool you. All that "silver" stuff they claim to use is so small, that there is no noticable difference. The best solder that I have used, and use to assemble ALL of our batts, is made by Kester. Its a 60/40 rosin core solder. The Iron will make the job easier too. We sell a good 60W iron with a nice hammer head tip. The same one I use to make batts too.

Yeah, just buy the iron from CBP, $20 and works really good.
