New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

Someone on Instagram posted the new Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC for Rock Crawling. I can't find anymore info other than that but from what I saw... it was..

ESC on Motor setup.

- Branded under Hobbywing's Quicrun line
- 540 Brushless Motor 1800kv (The can looks like a 550, but the poster said it was 540 and the additional length is the ESC)
- 40A ESC on the motor with Programming card
- XT60 connectors

2-3S Lipo compatible. Or 6-9 cell NIMH. 7.2-11.1V
6V/7.4V adjustable 4A switching BEC
1200 or 1800 KV 4 pole motor option. #30120400 and 30120401
Pinion Shaft - 3.175x16 mm (1/8th In)

It's supposed to be a straight plug and play system.

Might be a nice more budget friendly alternative to the AXE system since it's under the Quicrun line rather than the XERun line.

EDIT: Found photo.

ESC on the motor?
Isn't there some kind of interference going on while the motor is running?

I'm guessing that might be a thing of the past.

I have Losi's (well Dynamite's) brushless motor/ESC combo for the Mini T 2.0 and it works just fine.

It is nice to see a more budget friendly FOC setup at least hopefully. The AXE system is hard to come to terms with due to its cost and proprietary nature.

IIRC, back in 2015 Team Orion had one - the Vortex dDrive 2-in-1 power unit...

I like it, price comes down a tick, I’ll probably pick one up.

In the video he says it is not sensorless but is designed for crawlers. Does the mean it maybe jittery at low speeds compared to the sensorless mother’s with separate speed controllers.

Its a whole different control system called FOC:

(heres a link, not related to crawlers specifically)

I like the idea. If you've got room it might make a scale truck less cluttered.

Good find. It's still FOC though so so it'll be interesting to see if it works differently than the AXE. Who's going to be the guinea pig?

Re: New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

I might get one of these if the price is right, but it's just a bit too slow for a brushless motor, if only they had something in the 2300 range. Could just run a oversized pinion though.

Edit: On second thought, it is a 40a esc, so probably not.

Nice! Please post up a review on this forum when you get some experience with it.

I didn't realize this was an all in one unit where the ESC is built into the motor. That's very cool. I wish more companies would do this, but at the same time make them serviceable so either the ESC or motor can be replaced rather than having to buy the entire thing if one part of it fails.

Re: New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

I have one in hand, but it might be a while before I get around to putting it to use. As of right now, I'm probably putting this in my Enduro Kit build, but there are some things I want to try on the kit build as far as 3D printed parts go.

I've been happy with the Axe 2300kv in my Capra, so I thought I'd try this out since the packaging intrigues me with how I might be able to lay things out.

Re: New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

Just got the fusion and installed it in my Enduro. This is my first brushless system, so.. yeah, not much experience.

First impression after driving for about 30 mins in my backyard
- Love the FOC system, how it modulates the torque to keep the speed constant irrespective of the obstacle you are going over
- Extremely quiet at low speeds. Since there is no fan, at crawling speeds, there is literally no sound from the rig!
- 1800Kv, so dont expect any bashing speeds. I dont have a speed measuring tool, but with the stock gearing on the enduro with 12% overdrive, i would guess it barely touches 7 MPH
- Love the flexibility it gives me from the perspective of weight management. I am aiming for a low weight crawler (6lbs) and this thing is smidge lighter than my HH crawl master 13t 550 motor i was running before this. And no extra weight of the ESC anymore. So, i am planning to move my receiver next to the servo and get rid of the floor boards.

Re: New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

I like the idea and price, but I don't know if I can get onboard with the 1800kv motor. You can get a Holmes stubby and mamba micro x for $8 more and get more wheel speed. You get a weaker BEC in the castle, but a bat powered servo solves that. Weight is similar between the 2 systems. The all-in-one fusion will be better for some and the shorter motor of the stubby will be better for others. Nice to have options just wish it was a tad faster.

Re: New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

I have one and recently picked up a stock Enduro Trailrunner.
I had the Hobbywing System already and it needed a home.

The system works like a champ and the slow speed is very controlled in the truck.
I have to say I like more wheel speed, so I went up on the stock pinion size from 18 to 23.
The truck is a bit faster and the slow speed crawling is still just as controlled as before.
I ran the truck hard this last weekend and the motor never got above slightly warm.

When I need another system I will probably pick another one of these up.
Easy setup and great manners work for me.

Has anyone else used this system yet? Curious how it would compare to the Hobbywing 1080 esc and Tekin 20t motor I'm currently using.

Re: New Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 2-1 FOC Brushless motor/ESC Combo for Rock Crawling

So I recently got the 1800kv fusion system for my gatekeeper build. And I also have another enduro kit running a hw1080 and 13t 540 crawlmaster. It’s definitely not a speed machine but with 21 tooth pinion my gatekeeper is running cool with great low speed control at least as good as the 1080 crawlmaster combo.

What is the difference between this system and a typical sensored brushless motor with compatible esc?

The esc is in the motor can. It’s about the size of a standard 550 can motor. Battery lead, receiver lead, and the switch are the only only things you have to deal with so it keeps wiring tidy and you don’t have to mount a separate esc. The only sensored brushless set up is in my b44.3 so I can’t really compare it to what a sensored crawler is like. But start up and low speed have xcellent control. The foc is interesting.

I just put a Fusion in my SCX10 iii Gladiator. It works great running the 14t pinion (i mis-spoke in the video) and the 40t spur.

I also mis-spoke and called it FOV, not FOC. This video shows how cool the FOC is. Almost like cheating. lol

I just put the fusion in my gmade buffalo and it will get stuck in full speed then lock the breaks. I've recalibrated the remote end points, set the esc but it's still does it. It I set the trim to 50% I have no issues. Any thoughts?

Not sure about Tamiya, but Dynamite and Orion had similar offerings some years back for off road cars. Spektrum just came out with one that looks just like the Hobbywing, only their colors and I think they have one in 2300kv.

Yeah, just a fusion built to Spektrum's specs.

On that note, there was a mass sale on the current fusion and axe systems being run at PLBTF. I wonder if Hobbywing is getting ready to update their own line pretty soon now that the Spektrum versions are out.

I had a similar experience setting up mine. It is Extremely sensitive to throttle trim settings or if you Tx/Rx receives any interference. After a couple dozen attempts it is finally working and awesome.

Btw mine would go into full brake mode any time I used full throttle. When I release the trigger and wait a couple seconds it would go again for about 5 feet and lock up again. Super frustrating to say the least.

I have the 1800kv fusion. It’s awesome, built in esc with BSC. It is a 540, but due to the added electronics it’s the size of a 550 can. I highly recommend it. It’s an awesome set up.

I have one in my rig. It crawls super slow, has more pep than rtr stock, there’s Absolutly no jitters at low speeds and I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever. That’s just my experience though. Personally I love it and plan on running one in the build I just started as well.
