Graet post. I was just perusing all the choices online as well. It'd be graet if we could get more specs on each tire, especially the height. Most of them seem too short IMO. My opinion about the HPI sandthrowers . It is a good tire but . The profile is just a bit to short . ( in loose sand ) On harder sand its a good tire, with brushless motor it pulls auto wheelie's . Its a hell when you want to reverse ,, no grip at all ( because the profile is in a angle ). correct me if im wrong. ( maybe i got the Europe version ) . On the link above me they say the same . "Sand Thrower Ring with a kuvioo, which we have not seen on the slope, but could say to be too low profile? Images and a ditch on the basis of Assumptions have been made that these tires have a pattern, but it is too low, and thus not enough to dig in the game. Still we have not seen this in practice, and has itself been a subscription list, but never ordered. Time will tell if we see this Cup rings as standard or Modded." |
From seeing the real deal, the Unlimited class sometimes use a split paddle, very much like the Proline Sandpaw for a steer tyre and a bucket like the RC4WD Intimidator for the rear or all the way around, as per example. IMO Ty, the Sand Paws worked awsome as long as it was loose sand or gravel but the truth of the matter is that it's not allway loose as I found out. I think were going to have to find a good hard surface tire to run allso. Some sort of pin spike or badland like tire will be a must have in the arsonal as well, so dont spend all your time on just paddles;-)"thumbsup" |
According to what I have read/heard the Panther paddle is the best off the shelf paddle for 2.2 wheels. The rubber compound is a lot softer then the Sand Paws, and the tire is a little bigger in diameter. I am going to buy another pair for the front axle of my rig, and see how they compare to running the Sand Paws out front. "thumbsup" |

Let me start by saying I have yet to try the rc4wd paddles yet but have ran all the other 2.2s listed and a couple custom ones. The panther paddles seem to work best for what I like to do and the terrain I run on like dry sand, decomposed granite and loose dirt. The wheel you mount them on and foam makes a decent difference in them as well. I tried no foam in a couple sets and hated them both and went back to foams. Width of the wheel kind of lets you tune the cup shape also. I have my fronts setup narrow and tall to bite harder and more than the rear, that way i get less wheelie overs and seem to drag the rear up stuff as opposed to the rears hitting a lip and flipping you backward. ive wanted to finish that car so bad, right now everything is in a box waiting to be built.. im thinking that maybe just running the paws up front may be better, from watching brads (bender) vid it seems to "power slide" better with one paddle forming a straight surface to skim across.. rather than the broken up paddle of the sand paw... that might be more likely to catch. |
Man. the more i look at the Sand Paws, the more I think having a enter rib running the circumference of the tire would help so much. It would both stiffen the actualy paddles, as well as provide a complete scoop on each paddle as opposed to an open end at the center. Whos gonna be the first to make them? |

Seeing as this is a tyre thread, I will ask a newb question here. Do these mount to bead lock wheels with ease. I am looking at the 2.2 Panther Paddles. Damn I wish slingshots came with a 2.2 front and read bead. |
