Default Fahrvergfoffin

This one will wind up in a couple different forums. It has an identity crisis and will take on many forms. In this forum it will be "foffish". It will not truly be a foff because I don't have any sand around and theres no sense setting it up for sand. but dirt and gravel and hill climbing....that's where this personality will play.
Inspired by many of the guys on here, and in a VERY large part by Chubbles bug, I finally decided to get an exo. I don't know what tires are going on it yet, still in the debating stage. I need to get a motor mount, a pinion gear, cooling fan.
I don't know what gearing I'll need, I guess I need to decide on tires first.
It will be traxxas velineon powered for now, for quite a while actually. I will be running 2s lipo.
and......of course...... the body
Proline Slash Baja Bug painted on the outside with spray on bedliner.

I"m going to use the original side panels under the bug body to give me some inner fenders to help keep some dirt and debris out.
Going to mount two LED's in the front as an homage to old school 70's rally cars.

I know, they are silly, but I like them
they will look better once they are painted with bedliner

I don't know what detail parts I'm going to use, if any. I don't have the fake engine. I do have the radiator and fake fans, but the back window of the bug would block them.

One of its personalities MAY wind up being a stock Exo, so the radiator might go in it. Just for goofiness I thought of putting in this

it came out of a 25 cent garage sale RC truck

maybe some paint and some fake pipes and it could be interesting

anyway, that's it for now, LOTS of work coming :] in case anyone is interested, I'll post links to the other personalities in my signature once I start them.

ok, tire decision thanks to a great deal in the classifieds, thanks ceedawg.
Just bought these

Will probably cut them like these

then they will be going on my rpm wide crawler revolvers. the proline eight shooters have the wrong offset to clear the exo's front steering/suspension

You could use wheel wideners, it'll be more stable.

thanks mcnaney

so, today....
no real progress, but stripped it down and cleaned and relubed everything. Figured I'd want the dirt to be my dirt, lol. It's a good thing I tore it down, in addition to the empty shocks, the dry diffs, the obscene amount of over tightened screws, I found an empty space where there should have been a bearing.

and you have to wonder what people are thinking, I guess it made sense to cut a hole in the side of a water proof receiver box. which totally baffles me since the guy was running it without a lid, so what was the need for the cutout.
anyway

but I got what I could put back together while I'm waiting on my motor mount/pinion/ and now bearing.

Ok, I'm not worried about it for my scaler version, but for the Foff, I obviously need to be more concerned about structural integrity. I don't want this thing folding up on me
There are some things I found out about my roll cage that I wanted to see if you guys think they will weaken the chassis or if I can do without them.
I found a picture of cage parts and labeled it accordingly. The center cross brace that ties the frame halves together is missing, should I make one or just not worry about it? It would be an easy part to make, but I'm not going to bother with it if I don't have to.
Also, the vertical support for the cross brace below the radiator has been cut off. Should I try to rig something up for this?
Noticed from looking at the pics that I've got another one cut off on the front lower cross brace, I edited the pic to show it.
same question on this one.

For the amount of bashing you will do to this. Get a new cage with all the missing parts you need.
You will surely break something and will have extra parts down the road.
Great start. Have you got the right length dog bones in the rear? Think it came with 94mm, but you will need 96 so they don't fall out.
Also if you are putting in real power you want to upgrade the motor mount. I broke mine in one pack and got the STRC one to replace it. Also tried the Vanquish one and they both held up to some serious power.

thanks shawn, I was afraid of that, but expecting it. Falls under that "sure would have been nice to know these things before I bought" category. Specifically asked about what was needed and was told the only thing wrong with the cage was that it had been shortened for the bug body and that it included everything needed to fix that. Well, It did have the cage sides, but not the other things needed to fix the cage.
Anyway, more stuff to save up for, LOL
so... good day for the exo but not great...
good because I got my tires... thanks ceedawwg. AND my motor mount, thanks ebay :P It's an axial but its all I could afford, it is the updated version though, so I should be ok.

the reason it wasn't a great deay for the exo is because I don't have a pinion yet :P
