Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Had some spare parts laying around and decided to build a 1.9 R1. First thing was to put some axial axles under the frame and to shorten the wheel base (10.5"). As of now I will be running a XL5 with a tamiya silver can motor. Steering will be a 645 hitec. The suspension is RC4WD 110 dual shocks. All were sitting in my spare parts drawer. Brazed up a spare tire mount. Looks pretty good. Designed to accommodate the full up travel of the suspension. Just waiting on some drive shafts. Then will finish off the interior with a dash and driver I also have laying around. I think it looks perfect. Would love to hear your thoughts. Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build Love the look of your truck, Its got a madmax feel to it. I like..... "thumbsup" |

And yes, the hammers race is kinda madmaxish! Lots of tough, fast, technical homemade rigs. |
Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build i love the look of this, i should do something similar with my second r1 |
Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build Looks great. Funnily enough I'd thought about doing a 1.9 R1 and putting a spare wheel on the back too, doing a real scale buggy look. Hadn't thought about shortening the wheelbase though and after seeing yours I can see it's definitely needed. Junfac have just massively cut the cost of the R1, I'm almost tempted to buy a second kit. It's a such a versatile design and a great kit to fiddle with. Good work. What's the turning radius like with those axles and the 1.9's? Is it better than the stock set up? |
Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build Quote:
To be true to scale, the axles should definitely be as close to tucked under the frame as possible. Hence shortening the wheelbase. The axles turn way better that the R1's! My portals are now under my 2.2 Campbell buggy. The R1 axles look awesome and perform great with the exception of the turning radius. 4 way steer is a must! Oh, and budget build is out the window. Although testing on my rock course in the basement, the XL5 and silver can motor just don't cut it... I am used to my MMP and 13.5 setup in my Campbell buggy. So, I got a waterproof HH BR-XL on the way with a HH 25T... I always thought the R1 never had the love it deserved. |
Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build "thumbsup" Just googled "King of hammers" and your rig has defo' got the king of hammers look. I've never seen or heard of it before, Its great to watch on you tube.... "thumbsup" Nice one |
Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build After having the pleasure of attending KOH last year, i would say without a doubt that if your truck was full size it would fit in great out there. Looks great"thumbsup" |
Re: Tedo's Budget KOH build man i wish i had spare parts like this just sitting around, love the truck |
Re: Tedo's KOH build Well, no so much a budget build anymore. Got me a HH BR-XL and a 27t torquemaster. Swapped trannies and I am now using my R2 heavy duty tranny from my 2.2 build. And some new shoes. The pitbulls are AMAZING! Perfect size, width, and it the softest tire compound. Totally rivals my 2.2 tsls. This thing flat out performs in every way. I am so pleased with its appearance. Such a fun trail rig as well as a helleva sportsman crawler. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0181.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0178.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0186.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0187.jpg |
Re: Tedo's KOH build Rig looks tough, can we see some more pic's of layout in the chassis. I've been looking for a driver for mine where did yours come from. |
Re: Tedo's KOH build awesome rig man!!"thumbsup" |
Re: Tedo's KOH build this truck is ugly as all sin! But it looks freakin cool as hell dude!! |

Re: Tedo's KOH build Well, decided to do a chassis mounted servo. Pretty easy mod using standard servo braces and existing mounting brackets on the r1 chassis. Works really good and is sturdy: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0211.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0212.jpg Then decided to cut a new hood out of what I believe to be .20 ga aluminum sheet (it's the thick stuff). What I really wanted is for the hood to go over the front axle - which is does due to the new chassis mounted servo. Ran a 3s through it yesterday, and there is no binding, and everything clears as it should: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0228.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0224.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/IMAG0226.jpg |
Re: Tedo's KOH build You know I almost feel that those tires/wheels are too big for that chassis to be a scale koh rig. It looks pretty sweet though  |

Re: Tedo's KOH build Hmmmm maybe get some 1.55 rims and reduce the pitbulls?\? Idk like I said, it's just what I feel but even then it looks sweet! |
Re: Tedo's KOH build Tedo, this thing just keeps gettin' better an' better..... 8) It's amazing how you have got all the electrics hidden away, it's a pain in the backside to hide the wiring inside the cage. There isn't a lot of room in there...... "thumbsup" |
Re: Tedo's KOH build That is a bad azz rig!!I think the tires look close enough to scale I`d leave em alone |
Re: Tedo's KOH build Well, testing out a new camera and lens (by no means am I photographer!). Trying selective focus: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/DSC_0898.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/DSC_0903.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/DSC_0904.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/DSC_0902.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/DSC_0926.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...1/DSC_0928.jpg |
Re: Tedo's KOH build Looks real good man. Those are some nice pictures"thumbsup" |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Well, I was having problems with steering with my chassis mounted servo. I just wasn't getting equal throw because of the lack of a pan hard bar. So I went back to the trusty axle mounted servo. My hood conceals most of it, and it's a 100% better performance (gotta sacrifice). With the cvd paired with gunner pins, I can turn on a dime. Almost comp buggy style. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...IMAG0332_1.jpg |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build I've been going back n forth about building a rig off of the R1 chassis and this thread sold me on it "thumbsup" Awesome job, the rig looks great. thanks for posting up how you tucked all the electronics into the the chassis and you can't deny how well the 1.9 pit bulls work, love those tires  |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build You realize this really isnt a gmade anymore as vehicle type is based off of axle brand right? Why would you use axial axles anyway? The gmade are so much better with the portals! |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Quote:
Guess, I have to move this now. I was just showing other R1 owners what can be done with a little imagination. |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build I agree with tedo...with that much power he's pushing he better be running Axial axles! R1 Portals sure look cool but I just don't trust them unless they're going on a Mog or something where it has to be portaled for scale reasons. Great job with the build! How's that spare tire and mount? Giving you and break over issues due to the added weight? The one I have on my 2.2 KOH is a PITA. Might just throw on a plastic 2.2 short course wheel but then it wouldn't match the rest of my rig....ahhh scale and performance is a fine line to master. http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/a...n/100_0252.jpg http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/a...n/100_0253.jpg |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build The spare is really a non issue. It's a flat iron mounted on a stock axial 1.9 with no foam. It's really just cosmetic and light. And like I said earlier, the pitbulls are crazy awesome. Thanks for the compliments, I have always loved your chassis! you have been silent for a while. Can never go wrong with a WOD chassis design. I would love the opportunity to purchace if you ever decide to part it out... |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Quote:
Axial axles are the way to go, and i dont see any reason to use another axle. This looks great man, and i am sure it performs awsome"thumbsup" |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Up for sale. In classifieds soon. |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build It went to a wonderful home! |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Yes it did:mrgreen: |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build I think you need to mount some .50 cals and get ready for the zombie apocalypse!!! Nice build I have one sitting in the bof waiting on me to build it....so many projects, so little time, god I love retirement!!!!!! |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build that a sick truck. keep up the good work"thumbsup" |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build I know I'm a little late to the party but this has inspired me to do the same but I'll be going a different route by starting with a Honcho. I already ordered the R1 chassis, transmission and delrin plate. Do you mind (or even remember) what lengths your upper and lower links were? Any help would be much appreciated and the truck looks amazing. Hopefully it's still out pounding rocks somewhere out there. Can't wait to get mine going. |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Are you running your tires with or with out foams? |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build I bought this truck quite some time ago. It is still taking a monthly beating in our ultra4 races. His tires did have foams in them. I can get you link lengths if you want them, however I extended the wheelbase a little bit when I put new links on it. I have a build thread in this section if you wanted to see its current state. |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Really cool ideas with how you hid stuff. Dont sweat the tires dude. They're close to perfect. I made a similar rig out of a venom creeper a few years back. Miss that rig. |
Re: Tedo's KOH build Quote:
okay im liking the idea of the figer in the cab but I see you had to swap to the r2 transmission was that just a bolt on or need to be modified to fit and is that a custom plate on top of the servo for the winch |
Re: Tedo's 1.9 KOH build Wow this rig is really cool, I like the lines on the chassie it reminds me of a single seater buggy |
