The first thing I would upgrade are the axleshafts from the portal gearboxes to the steering knuckle since the stock ones are so weak. Don't waste your money on the g-made cvd's, they aren't much better. I haven't ran these but they look like a good option since you gain strength and steering angle. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/g-mad...1-wrapter.html

The other option is to use RC4WD xvds which are stronger than stock but don't gain as much steering angle as wraith parts. I'm running d40 xvds in mine with t-rex high clearance knuckles but these parts are hard to find after rc4wd probably got rid of them in the mystery boxes

The next upgrade is the bearings in the portal gearboxes. DravTech made his adapters so you can fit bigger bearings which should help or you can get bushings.

if you are asking for a oem parts from different manufactures i found boom racing, they are japan, BUT hey the R1 is S. Korean. i found the boom racing pretty good products.

here is what i did so far.

boom racing
-steering knuckle
-front hub carrier
- rear axle lock out
-front & rear lower links- (on these i did drill out the threads and use bolt and nut. )
-skid plate

i used the gmade upper link- Gma51123S
-skids
-servo mount

mip

I'd be interested in that as well. Attempting a truck rebuilt and will be using the portals. It's going to be big and heavy, and most likely more for show than go, but would still like to not tear these or the bearings up.

The portal gears? Or the ring pinion?

With dual 45t motors on 4s with 2.2 tires. That alot torque and wheel speed on tiny bearings and pot metal gears.

No aftermarket gears I know of.

iv been shreding off the portal gears i think its partially from failing bearings after taking them apart tho

Re: R1 hop up companies

the gear that sits right on top of the final drive gear in the xr10 tranny's is a perfect fit for the upper portal gear, but of course, the teeth are not the same.. if someone knows if there is a berg gear or other gear that is the same as the xr pitch that will fit into the lower portal then problem solved.. kinda.. replace the bearings with bushings?
