scale driver this will be my first truck with an interior so i have to have a driver. how tall does a figure have to be to look right in this body. im going to assume a 7 inch figure is to short |
Re: scale driver 3 Attachment(s) I am using hunter dan from cabelas he is a good fit |
Re: scale driver how tall is he? |
Re: scale driver This would be a good thread to keep track of all the drivers that fit well. Here's mine, the first is with a 2$ action figure from a doller store, not sure on height. http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps22f74a76.jpg And this is one of the guys from Gears of War, i'm sure if you google it you will find the height. Hard to find something that fits the seats, steering wheel, windshield, and legroom! http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps499318c8.jpg |
Re: scale driver I really don't think there is a driver that fits perfectly. Since there is no molded area of the body under the dash for the driver's feet, you have to use a short driver with short legs or a tall driver with foreshortened legs. Best thing to do in my opionion is to take a character that is too tall and cut him to fit the proportions of the driver's seat and hide the cut parts with clothes. I would start with a 9 or 10 inch figure and use clothes from a 12" G.I. Joe (which is too tall) or clothes from a boy Bratz doll to cover the cut out parts of the body....if you're willing to shop for doll clothes. ;-) Either way, if the driver does not look through the top of windshield, he is probably too short for scale. This is not a true 1:10 scale Jeep CJ3A. It's closer to 1:7 scale. .....just my opinion. |
Re: scale driver 8" seems about right... i have hunter dan in mine too |
scale driver I started with 7", then 8". If you look at 1:1 jeeps the driver's head is as tall as the windshield. And the knees hang out the side. I found my vintage Big Jim in the attic. He is 12" and still not too big I think. Here is a shot - the set underneath him is still missing but the position is about right. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/14/7yvehyty.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/14/9yqyhabu.jpg By the way: added a moving steering wheel simply by putting a servo behind it hooked up with a y-connector to the steering servo ;-) Found a pic on wiki - hope it's okay to use here: http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/14/yzy2uva7.jpg |
Re: scale driver Jed Clampett figure was 8" tall, had to slice his boots off to get fit on floorpan right. Now Jed was a tall man anyway so his head is juussst a tick over the top of the windshield but heck, that is why he wears that ole hat! http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/...ps09ae7f13.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8dfbc6be.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2729deab.jpg |
Re: scale driver I use Hunter Dan and Hunter Ann. They are said to be 8" figures. The second picture is kind of deceiving because I am pointing the camera up towards the Jeep so the characters seem much shorter than the windshield which isn't the case. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5530/...2376ebcb_z.jpg CLICK FOR OTHER SIZES https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5543/...04c1a085_z.jpg CLICK FOR OTHER SIZES |
I like you put the wife shotgun, jato.. I thought I was going.a little overboard. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/17/agubuta8.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: scale driver technically if a guy was 6 foot then he would be about 10 in in a 1:7 scale truck right? If a guy that is 8 inches is a good fit then that would make the man about 4 1/2 foot tall lol So the real question is what scale is the sawback???:ror: |
Re: scale driver I'm using a 1/6 scale figure. I had to shorten him a lot. He has no lower legs anymore, his neck was shortened a bit and I basically glued his ribcage to his hipbone. I might take a few mm out of his forearms, they look a bit long now compared to his body. With the insane amount of options for heads, clothing and accessories, 1/6 figures are the best option IMO. https://i.imgur.com/Fn5ExN5.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0DqvYRx.jpg |
Re: scale driver I'm using this guy. He was right at 12 inches when I bought him. I took an inch or so out of his torso, and a little from each leg so I could get the boots to fit inside. The packaging is long gone and I can't remember his details. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/membe...3612-49979.jpg |

Hard to find something that fits the seats, steering wheel, windshield, and legroom! http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps499318c8.jpg[/QUOTE] I got Marcus from gears of war from ebay and he is a little too tall. I don't want to cut him up so I am still searching for a driver. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: scale driver I found 8" figures from "Lost" on amazon. 2 figures for $9.83 shipped. I'll post picks later. |

IMO this is the perfect size for the Sawback. Willy's are small cramped vehicles in 1:1. "thumbsup" |
Re: scale driver http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...8825bddb80.jpg Here's mine.. Unfortunately he's here before the truck came. But I think he will fit good in the jeep & he already has a sunburn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: scale driver I think this marionette is the best size for the Sawback. He is between the 8" Lost figures and the 12" G. I. Joe figures. I will still have to make a few body modifications to make him fit perfectly, but with some sunglasses and maybe a hat, I think he will work. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps1u6mbp1z.jpg He originally came with a satin shirt, before a wardrobe change. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...psxz2nls5v.jpg |
Re: scale driver Quote:
A lot of other figures I see in Sawbacks are simply too small. While the chassis is 1:10 like for example an SCX10, the body is somewhere around 1:6, 1:7 scale. The proportions aren't exactly consistent all the way around. I calculated an average scale based on the width, length and height of the Sawback body and a Willys before looking at figures. I noticed that in a lot of pictures of 1:1 Willys that the top of the driver's head is about at the same height as the top of the windshield, that is what I aimed for while finetuning my figure. When your figure is roughly the correct height there is hardly any space for the lower legs since there is no footwell in the body. |
Re: scale driver Try NECA figures from Team Fortress. Some of them (Doctor, Spy and Engineer) quite scale and should fit to Sawback nice. I took Engineer and he fits good to Sawback. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7...214_124346.jpg |
Re: scale driver I finally got my driver mounted. Call him Tony. I had to cut the bottom of his legs off. But I think the truck looks much better with a driver. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...830f8bd65a.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...353f3a6e76.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: scale driver ok, so what i've seen is people claiming that 8" figures work, and that 12" with about an inch cut out work. there is a 3" difference between those two which is huge in scale terms. ANY updates? im concerned cuz im thinking of foolishly spending alot of $$ on a figure... haha  |
A 1:1 6 foot man is 72" tall. For a 1/10 scale that would be 7.2 inches. But like most things, they are not perfect. 7-8 inches depending on the figure should work. Big Bang Theory figures are 8" tall........... http://www.amazon.com/Theory-Leonard...action+figures |
Re: scale driver What are you guys doing to keep your driver in the jeep when you are driving it? |
Re: scale driver i ran a 3/4" drywall screw up thru the seat bottom |
Re: scale driver I had to put a screw from back of seat into the figures back, drilled & tapped it for the bolt then plopped a scale seatbelt bungie cord across his lap to each side of seat underside. |
Re: scale driver Thanks, Has anyone tried Velcro? Also where are you finding seat belts? |
Re: scale driver Go for an 8" action figure instead of a 7". My Axials and my TF2 have 7" Neca action figures in it, but those are to small for the Sawback. Went for an 8" action figure, of Rajeesh Koothrapalli from The Big Bang Theory. Didnt have to make any modifications, just had a self tapping screw, mounted thru the seat. http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...psohe8xzg8.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...psbznkbjpd.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...psz77gwy9b.jpg http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/o...psmzhhuoxr.jpg |
Re: scale driver I've tried Neca and a few others, but on Ebay UK, and maybe elsewhere, you can find HM forces or similar name. They are all military, various guises and uniforms. All seem to be pigeon chested and most need buttock surgery to fit but the size seems to work well with their heads at top screen level as in original 1:1 jeep. Photos of mine (fingers crossed, as usual) |

Re: scale driver M and M very nice work on your jeep. Jeepiac Al is a good choice for a driver. |
