Kincer's Sawback

I picked this up a while back as a roller and put it in the garage and got it mobile this week, added the roll bar, new bumper and winch. Got some deep dish wagon wheels on the way. Running Axial electronics with a DS3218 Pro servo. Have a few more upgrades on the way, wish the TF2 was as good as this on leaf springs lol. Not too familiar with these so is there anything that needs attention on these?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c56084612b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f774a047a3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...416f9d5ad1.jpg

Cool, where can I find one?

Probably ebay, Amazon. I'm not sure of Sportsman Warehouse sells them anymore. It took me awhile to find Hunter Ann (the girl) kinda pricey.

Sweet Sawback! Wheels and tires are perfect.

I love my Sawbacks. They are so fun! I suggest the GMade anti roll bars, or you can make your own, if you’re as hard on leaf springs as I am.

You can also move the tie rod up for more clearance like I did in my thread.

I’ve also been using Hunter Dan as my driver for a long time. He’s originally from Cabela’s if I remember correctly, but they were sold online as well.

Thanks Jato, I did the anti wrap bars front and rear, also moved the tie rod up, found both Hunter Dan and Ann today on ebay lol, I'm guessing the plastic trans gears hold up as I haven't found metal ones?

You’re welcome. I’ve never had a problem with the gears. They are loud, but durable in my experience. My first Sawback started off with a 17.5T brushless system. I’d even jump it. Only ever had to replace leaf springs.

Well done! I do like an old flat fender in red...just something about them. The stock look with the white rims is perfection. "thumbsup"

Someone did a super scale version of one of these with a canvas top an all...can't seem to find it now.

I know it's a little late and my knit-picking nature is coming out, but I think your gas tank sticker should be higher. A 3D printed gas tank filler insert, would be a perfect addition. It wouldn't even be too difficult to scratch one out of styrene.

It looks terrific over all and should be a lot of fun. "thumbsup"

Thanks man, I like the rims but I'm swapping them for some white wagon wheels right now, I'll have some new pics up shortly, I'm not done with the body quite yet that's how I bought it, been focusing on the drivetrain first, have a bunch of stuff on the way, including a driver and passenger. I may go back to the steel rims not sure yet. "thumbsup"

It's been so long since I was researching everything about this rig, that I need to go back and do it all over again to remember what I need to do. I have parts too!

Yeah I had to quite a bit of research myself, I think these came out 6 or so years ago lol.

Yeah these Sawbacks need a driver, looks weird moving without a driver, not so noticeable on other RC's. I normally wouldn't bother but felt this needed one. I have to admit I felt a little childish playing with an action figure at age 50 but then I thought about it and laughed, I'm still playing with toy cars :lmao:

How bout it? With the huge uptick in this hobby you'd think some company would jump into realistic scale looking bodies with a few different scale sizes. I find myself walking up and down the toy isles at Walmart looking at figures. Always saying , no, no, no....ah hell no.....

some gold chains maybe a teen skipper in a short mini skirt and some face paintings lol
instant raver dan lol
a sound syztem with some cheasy tecno playing would just round it off lol

it would be nice if someone would make scale drivers this hobbie needs them

Re: Kincer's Sawback

With a little super glue, spot filler, and airbrush I feel like you could make some of the existing driver options nearly photorealistic. The bolts through the elbow can be hidden, skin can be toned/shadowed, that stiff seating position can be altered if you aren't worried about cutting one up...I don't know anyone who sits ramrod straight while driving except maybe motorcycle cops lol

SurlyBurly 03-06-2021 05:22 AM

Re: Kincer's Sawback

I feel like any attempt to make a realistic driver is just going to run face first into the uncanny valley. I've seen the opposite approach often garner more success, not taking the driver too seriously and often as an opportunity for a little humor. Put something whacky in there, not too outlandish, just something funny or weird that people might not notice on the first pass.

What does this mean lol.

So I was just saying you can make an action figure look decent with a little work. Not that you would be cruising around with wax museum figures...

Plan B, Axial helmet set. I did that to my Enduro and they look really real lol.

It isn't a difficult concept, I was just saying your doll is always gonna look like a doll so why not take the opportunity to be more creative.
