Big outrunners with what?

Those of you running big outrunners, what tranny are you using? I'm trying to build this badass truggy with a 3020 Scorpion and WK axles. I've got an Emaxx tranny but man it's hard to build around. Anyone had luck with a R2HD? Could I even put the Scorpion in it? I'm trying to get this thing built, but every time I try to design something the Maxx mounting options f*ck me over.

The tranny in my Scorpion rocks. Very smooth, and I've only heard of one failure on this board out of all the folks running them.

I'm quite sure an Axial tranny could handle it. Especially if you had a tight slipper on it.

I've got the 3020-14 in my x-factor super with a VXL-spec stampede tranny. I've seen old pede tranny's go for $25 and the steel iternals are around $15. Unless space is a factor I'd run that over the axial but that's just my opinion.

Hmmm... I'll try the axial and then the pede if the AX explodes on me. I'm not the guy that hammers on it when i get a wheel stuck or anything. I actually drive my trucks pretty easy from what I've seen other people do.

I wouldn't be worried about the gears in the Axial, so much as the output shafts. I have had a failure and heard and read about many others who have broken the output from the tranny locker. I was using a 55t lathe motor.

Exactly what happened to a local RCC member Pariah. He is using a Axial trans, custom slipper clutch on the Axial trans, 6 cell, Mamba Max and a Holmes Black Revolver (brushless) and he snapped the output shaft on the trans locker smooth off. The Axial locker for the trans is hollow / drilled out. I don't understand why Axial would do that. You would think they would leave as much metal as possible to make it as strong as possible.

I would use the HD RC4WD R2 before I used anything else. No matter what, with that big of a brushless motor, you are going to break stuff if you get bound up:twisted:. Every time I run brushless in a rig, it breaks something. The torque from brushless is amazing. I just wish it was buttery smooth like a lathe.

I think the axial would be fine if you put a slipper on it.
Here is a slipper that fits.

I'm leaning to either a TXT or a RC4WD HD. I don't want to use a slipper and I need 6mm shafts to run Maxx shafts.

i'm running an holmes hobbies crawlmaster on an r2d and it's going just fine... mamba max...2.2 wheels plenty of power 2100 3c lipo... 12t pinion
scorpion axles...verrrry happy with this combo

Nabil 03-18-2008 01:54 AM

i actually just stripped the gears in an axial tranny yesterday running a revolver with a 3 cell lipo. maybe look at something beefier

red jim 03-18-2008 07:51 AM

I would use a 'pede,my Hyperion/MM combo hasn't blown up mine yet,yet being the key word.I have TXT axles and Maxx Mashers with Maxx shafts in my rig

Brainstain 03-18-2008 03:26 PM

Well, I've changed my mind to running a 3025 or a 3032. I'm REALLY leaning towards the TXT tranny. I'll need a custom motorplate to run the 3032.
