Default Minimal Skid Plate?

I'm looking for some community feedback on running the smallest skid plate possible. I'm considering making a new delrin skid plate that is considerably smaller than the stock one on my AX10. Since the only thing resting on it is the transmission, I was hoping to make the skid plate not much wider than the tranny base.

My thinking is, that if the crawler should happen to get hung up on a large rock that would cause it to "teeter-totter" with neither the front or rear wheels on the rocks...the smallest skid plate possible would be ideal.

Thoughts? Pics of your tiny skid plates?
