Give people time to reply... lots of info on this board. the maxx is a good crawler..if built right. Not sure if the nitro maxx is a good idea... though. (you did ask that in another thread didn't you?) | |

There have been sooooo many posts hashing this out. Modified Clods win more comps than anything else. |

a Maxx is a good crawler, although people don't seem to think so. i have seen 2 basically stock emaxxs whoop up on a modified Clod but it doesn't matter. you can make anything work( almost anything) with the exception of nitro. dont get me wrong, you can make a nitro work. but it gets old really fast. i traded my Tmaxx for the emaxx. alot nicer |

I dont think you could name a "best" crawler, there's just to many types of terrain out there. But working with what you have I would wait until RcRockGear.com comes out with there ultimate maxx set-up and use the diffs/suspinsion from your truck then buy a stampede tranny for it. I've only seen two nitro crawlers that seemed to work well, one was a maxx 2.5 with really low gearing (top speed was 5mph) that was built by a machinist and the other was a MGT with Kongs that with a gear reduction. Electric is just so much easier |

Your setup has to match your type of terrain. If you run a lot of big jagged rocks, you dont want small, skinny, narrow tires! Wider is better. Get the center of gravity low, gear it low, and set the shocks up right, mount your 4 link properly, and you will be good to go on almost any chassis.

so basically what everyone is just repeating over and over is there is no prefect crawler you need to make it perfect to the terrain like adam said about the tires like all the comes into play so just get a chassis fiddle with it and get it good

What chassis is best....Thats a question that will produce about a 1000 different answers. First off you have to ask yourself what kind of crawling are you doing. Are you in it for sport or pure competition? Almost any truck (including the Maxx's) will work great for sport. If your looking for a competitive chassis then you need to run somthing a bit different. It's there that you will get into the whole war about shafties vs clods. Most of us build these with sport in mind and then we attend a competition and get our butts whooped by a series of competitive crawlers. We then hit the drawing board and mod and mod until we have a competitive crawler. Maxx's fit nicely into the sport category, but they simply will not compete with a pure competition specific crawler. There still fun as hell. Hope this helps |

i started out with a stock emaxx with locked diffs and lower gearing. it was great and i enjoyed crawling with it as much as i enjoy crawling with my full blown, competition level truck today. you can get an emaxx off ebay for $200-$250. it's a great start in my opinion. i wouldn't get a txt. they have too many problems (ball ends pulling out which are a pain in the butt to change out, and they are just not as durable in my opinion) you want more driving time, less fixing time! Clods are consistent winners, but are allot of work and could cost allot of money to get a full comp level truck up and running. people also make shafty trucks. Summary: i would start with an emaxx. then as you get more serious, move to a clod or shafty rig comp type rig. |
