Default Custom Chassis

Hello everyone,

This may be a stupid and easy question but here goes. For those of you that make your own chassis out of plate aluminum, how do you cut it out. Do you use a CNC machine, do you take the drawings to a local machine shop?

Thank you,
Justin

I send my cad files to a waterjet cutter... I have also cut out prototypes on the bandsaw or with the dremel.

I made my first chassis with a scroll saw it worked but it took forever and did not look very well

9 inch table top band saw ($99 Delta) with $10 metal blade from Lowes, Dremel and a bargin store $40 bench top drill press. I use 1/8 inch alum 6000 series plate from a local welding shop that runs me about $15 for a 16 inch square piece. I can get 2 x-trail type chassis's and have enough scraps for a few servo/battery mount plates out of the one bit of alum.

I just tape off the plate, draw my design right on it and cut it out from there. I've done that quite a few times for chassis and all kinds of misc bits to include a few cutting board trans mounts. Enough that I've gone through about 5 blades on the band saw.
