Hey Xtremekrawler8. If you getting running well, we are planning to have another competition series. If you want the rules, let me know and I will post them up. We basically mail our LEGO crawlers to the different event hosts around the country if we aren't close enough to go in person. Its a fun cheap sport.

BigRed - For axles, you just need to get creative and build something. Most guys use the worm gear setup. Most parts are available on a site called BrickLink.com Anything you can think of, they have it. If you want part numbers, I will have to dig those up.

RCbif, what is that in the background?

It looks like a landing craft, and there's one more crawler in there

i guess you could call what im workin on a lego crawler. It uses lego wheels, gears, u joints, and those x shaped black shaft things. But most of the stuff is modified and everything else on the truck is hand made.

well lego crawlers are cool......but knex crawlers are better, i got one it has radio shack tires, no suspention so the way it flex' is that the frame flexes, for motors, i got 2motors that came with the knex put in some grey knex rods, no steering and crawls GREAT!!!

but legos look much harder to build

Knex are better? Bah!! Let's put it to the test on the rocks

Rubber Bando Vs. PinkFloydMan crawler

Here is my Rubber Bando in action. I came in second in this event. I was smoked by a guy who was running R/C tires of all things... hahaha Guess my LEGO foamies are not quite good enough.

Legos aren't too bad to work with though. Pretty easy actually. It's just hard to figure out what to do if you don't know what parts are available.

Dude hell yes we have comps. Rubber Bando is the 2003 points champion We are going to start another season this year, but it has been slow to start. Everyone is having freaking babies, people getting sick (cough cough), and so on. Right now, we have maybe 7 or 8 rigs that can compete. We have all the rules laid out, the scoring program working. The best part is this is a sport for BBQing fans. Kick back, let the crawler go while you chomp down on some ribs. Doesn't get much better than that.

BigRed - Pricing all depends on how good you are at at finding parts. There is a killer site called http://www.BrickLink.com which has all new and used Legos to buy. So you can pick up those motors, battery packs, etc that don't come in kits. I picked up most of my parts from Ebay in bulk. Built several from that bulk purchse. Not sure how much I have into the 3 or 4 I built, but it wasn't too bad. I gave two away to friends (Red Bird and Cricket). If you make one, try to make it to fit the build rules.

PinkFloydMan - hahaha.... wind up? SHeeeeeeeet. Dude, these are 100% battery operated autonomous action rock crawling plastico vehciular splendi. It don't get much better than this Knex...... please. Next your going to tell me your PlayDoh crawler walks the rocks too ... hehe

Actually, mine runs on a 9v and has a lego switch box. I mounted it in back to look like a gas tank. Slick up the look a little. If you get over to SierraRockCrawlers.com, I have a few video clips in the downloads section of a couple competitions and stuff..

Someone said, all we need it a remote control.....

I found one, well...un..it's my son's.

Look for Spybot kits. We picked a few up last year pritty cheap. They'd have skid steer, and an IR remote.

When it gets friggin cold out again, I'm gona drag up all 3 boxes of Lego and give one a try.

HUMMMM, how to do skid steer and have suspension..
