Shafty Conversion to Hot-Racing MOA 6 Attachment(s) Received the new Hot-Racing axles, arrived packaged in a plastic bag, already assembled, the link mount had torn through the packaging quite a bit, no big deal. First impressions are pretty good, similar to what others who have these axles have stated. Definitely noticed the size difference from the Berg though, and the hardware is smaller. I am still trying to decide what to do with these axles. For now, I think I'm going to convert my DMG DCV/Pro AX10 over to these axles.....first, just to see how easy it is to convert an AX10 shafty over, with the least amount of modifications as possible. The tuber has been sitting in the corner since ECC so I figured...why not? I don't really plan on running it, I just want to see how much work it is to do (plus I figure it may help others) Shortly after that is done and tested a little, I'll be changing to a different chassis ... a Zero 4.0 (hope it comes soon). ;-) But first before all that....let's do some Berg comparisons. And try to answer some of the questions pertaining to the real competion to these axles, the Berg 2.2. Below are some pics that show the differences between the Hot-Racing MOA's and the Berg 2.2's. |
Are the gears the same? What about the Hardware? 5 Attachment(s) The hardware used on the HR axles is smaller than the Berg but the axles are similar in size, just shorter. The gears seem to be identical as I was able to swap the gears (last two pics). Except I couldn't remove the last gear from the Berg, I could not get the long dogbone out of the Berg to swap it. But given the fact that the other two gears swapped out, I'm sure it's exactly the same. Pics. |
Is it Fubar Compatible? 5 Attachment(s) Next question. Will Fubar Crawlers Berg lockout work on these axles? Yes! But read on..... The lockouts fit right in, nice and snug just like on a Berg, however, the little notch that is on the top and bottom for the C to slide on, is about 1-1 1/2 mm too wide (last pic), because the HR axle C's are that much narrower than the Berg. Now with that said, I do not think it's gonna cause an issue once the knuckle and wheel are mounted. Time will tell. |
nice job dude... mount some tires/wheels and get clearance differences... |
How much does that new-fangled thing weigh? 2 Attachment(s) Weight comparison between HR and Berg 2.2 axles. Berg 2.2 - .530 lbs Hot-Racing - .410 lbs |
Conversion Rig 1 Attachment(s) Oh yeh, heres the rig I'm converting. Looks like Colossus is getting pulled out of retirement. "thumbsup" Build thread - http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial-ax-10-scorpion/111588-dcv-pro-project-colossus.html . |

where did the tubercome from ,i like it "thumbsup" nice build. |
Will you be clocking these axles? I like what I've seen so far the weight and length factors are plus in my mind. |
So the HR gears are metric 48 pitch? I though I read that they were standard 48 pitch. Thanks for the pics! I might pic a set of these up so my son can enjoy the advantage of a MDA too."thumbsup" |

The last Gear in the HR is the Standard 48p... The rest are 48 Metric. Will be much easier to find Pinions. I'll have these instock anyday now. |
Thanks for the great infomation....the new MOA axles "look" great...can't wait to hear the rest of the story8)"thumbsup" |
Great write-up ! keep it up. I almost bought a set yesterday, but I talked myself out of it. I'm trying to resist the whole berg/clod style axles...... its very hard to do! |
Roller! 11 Attachment(s) Managed to get this thing to a roller, and with hardly any modifications from my setup. The RCP knuckles fit easily onto the front C's and the axial stubs fit fine. On the rear I used some Berg stock knuckles with axial stubs and the Fubar lock outs, everything fit nicely. To convert to a four link all I did was use the small link connector used on RCP AX10 servo mount. You have to remove the ball joint from the HR 3link mount in order for it to fit snug. I did this on both front and rear but filpped the front for better clearance. The front links did not have to be modified at all and the clocking was pretty decent. The rear is where I need to modify my links. This chassis does not have any more mounting points to move my links further back so I will have to make longer links. For now I put a couple spacers until I can make new links. I haven't removed the AX10 tranny and dig unit yet, that will be easy enough. All I need to do then is mount my servo, wire up another one of my dig units and throw in some motors and it should be a crawler. Overall, I'd say it was a very simple conversion to get this to a roller using this setup. The way it sits now may not be the best but I'll have to get it running to test and see. I'm curious if it will handle better than when it was a reail AX10. On to the pics. |
can you please show a better picture of your four link mount thanks. |
Looks like you have a decent amount of clocking with you link lengths. Do you think the HR axles have as much turning ability? I'm really liking the 48 pitch pinions to. |
