Default Possible ideas for someone with lathe/mill

The idea here is that one side is made out of either a solid rod that is drilled to fit the other, smaller rod, or is made from tubing big enough to fit over the other rod fairly good. Using a spring-roll-pin that would fit tight, or just brazing a rod into the larger tube would act as a 'lock' for the smaller rod that is milled to fit nicely around the springy rolly pinny thing. These are supposed to be sliders, by the way, lol. I thought it would work, and since they'd be metal they would probably not strip, unless the smaller rod got twisted. I thought it'd work, lol, but i don't have the tools to do so.

Why not build your own stuff? Making your own shafts would allow you to custom tailor length for odd applications.
Some of you guys are pretty dense, his post and drawings are prefectly clear to me and I am on beer #3.

What about the u-joints? Also why would you need a lathe or mill? Seems like you could just get a rod and hacksaw the grove and get a tube/pipe that fits snugly over the rod. With a v block you could drill the hole in the tube for the pin.

In all seriousness, it was just somethin i came up with sittin on the toilet, so maybe it should have been flushed, maybe not, but i was thinking metal parts are a bit stronger than some of the plastics we use.
