| Indoor Rock Course - Concord, CA
We took inspiration and idea from Axial's tutorial on their website. It's a foam core, with spray on foam on top and then it's been sprayed with line-x bedliner. We made this with 2 sheets of 4x8 plywood cut them in half and hinged them. We figure this way we could do several things with this. We could run them like shown in the picture and then flip each side around as we learn the course to keep it fresh and interesting. We also can run them both level on tables end to end (or side by side if we take it outdoors) and we've built a suspension bridge to link the two. So we have like 8 variations on the course this way. I know this isn't much and may not be super impressive for this crowd...but it's what we had the space for and it's been a great attention piece in the store. It's been perfect for 2.2 crawlers and we're having a blast with it. If you're in the area. Come by and check it out and come run with us. We'd love to have you! -Mike |

Thanks for all the kind words. The write up Axial did was on the one they built for their trade-show booth. It's all the way at the bottom of the main page http://www.axialracing.com/ftp/rockcourse/ -Mike |

what bed liner did you use? all I could find was some crappy dupli color spray on bed liner. or did you take it to line x and have it sprayed there.

Looks pretty cool. Is this going to be always setup or only some times? I'm curious to see it next time I come by the store. |

Again thanks everyone! We had it sprayed with Line-X. Axial tried using brush on Herculiner and we tried a little bit of the plasti-dip spray but it will attack and eat the foam. If it wasn't for the cost of Line-X I would totally do another section. We actually overbought on the materials and have plenty to do another. Plus after seeing it done, we know exactly how to make it even better. The Line-X cost us $300 to have both sections done. In regards to use using it. Right now, the plan is to leave it up all the time for awhile. Another reason we did make it fold in half was so we could move it if we needed the space. For example, we do hobby classes twice a month and use the table underneath, so we'll move it out of the way those times. Also as soon as the weather turns and get's better, we'll move it outside where we'll have more room too. For now it's just for fun & playing, and to hopefully inspire and excite some newcomers to crawling and sell some kits/parts. If it takes off, and there's enough interest maybe we'll hold a little competition with it too. I'm pretty easy going with this whole stuff. As long as everyone is having fun and behaving...I'm happy.:-P Heck if there is enough interest and I'm happy to make another section too! -Mike |

Well done, nice lookin setup. Thanks for the pics. The local crawling club we recently started up here, is slowly starting to get a foam core indoor crawling table like that setup for hobby shows, demonstrations etc. Then again, we are still working to get a proper outdoor course setup...lol. Once spring comes, that should happen. On a complete side note, Line-X spray-in bedliner is one of the BEST upgrades I have ever done for my truck. Definately worth the cash. Plus working for a car dealership, I got a discount. Last edited by Nerve; 03-07-2008 at 10:27 PM. |

MannOmann thats a nice job you did on that , you have really inspired me to do this for playing at the house , I'm a little reluctant because I am not sure about how hard to make it. I have never been in a comp and probably wouldnt fare too well. I'm just not really sure what to do. Im rambling , I'll shut up now and just try it. on the track Nice store tooo. Dwane |

Hi Dwane, Thanks for the compliments on the store. We're pretty proud of it. I know the feeling on getting started. I sat on this idea for a few weeks with the same feeling. You just got to jump in and go at it. The good thing is you can always test run it before you spray it. Traction sucks on the foam but you can get an idea. And since it's just foam it's pretty easy to hack away. We easily took off 25-30% of the foam we put on! -Mike |

That looks really sweet. can you buy the spray on bedliner or do you have to take it somewhere?

We had to take it in and have it sprayed. You can by roll/brush on liner, but it interacts with the foam.

We moved the bed-lined course over to an empty space we're renting to fly planes indoor. Trying to work on the landlord to let us bring in some rock. So I did a little "proof of concept" today in the store to show what it would look like. This is sort of our new display/demo area for the MRCs |
