$5 walm@rt Skid..

Well here we go mabey this can inspire some guys to have some fun building things..
1. $5 cutting board
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01581.jpg
2.lay out some lines and cut one complete.. what I did was 2 3/4 that is how wide my R2D is..
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01580.jpg
3.Cut off the part that is un usable..but keep this we need it later.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01582.jpg
4.Cut off the lil bottom piece and keep it nice and square..
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01583.jpg
5.Next I cross cut the strip that I had at 1 3/4 and ended up looking kinda like a skid. Oh yea and here is the tools that you need for this a good square is incredibly helpful..and a sharpie..
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01585.jpg
6.Now you use that lil cut off piece from #3 and use a fence to keep your dremel cutting strait and "HOG" out the center..
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01589.jpg
7.I then marked where the holes need to be for the lower links to mount up and drilled them.. A vice is really nice for fine work and it keeps the holes strait.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3...r/DSC01593.jpg
8.And last but not least I mounted it up to my Sinastir Crawlers plate chassis..

Hope this has been helpful some things I am still gonna do is file the front and rear so they are rounded as to not catch on things but other than that I think I got a lil winner here.. let me know what you guys think."thumbsup"

what material is that exactly? says microban so you should be ok to eat off it if you need to. ;-)

is it a smooth sliding surface? like this idea!

OHU812 01-02-2009 11:45 AM

if you hit it with a lil sand paper it is like glass but as it comes out of the package is like an orange peel.. either way works good for me..?

cutting board is HDPE.

High Density Poly Ethelene. (spelling)

Not as slippery as UHMW or Delrin (Acetal) but its food grade, hence why its used for a cutting board.

I made my chassis and skid from one ."thumbsup"

NICE! did you go off some dimensions from an existing chassis?

OHU812 01-03-2009 12:02 AM

cutting board is 9/32 thick as fir the dimensions the with is the size of an R2D and the gap is the size of a sinastir plate chassis and also very close to a AX10

If ywere referring to my chassis, yes i used templates i found in the Wheely king section. They are from offroader5. (Widow chassis) and it works great. I would like to cut one out of aluminum when i get the chance.

If you go with the smaller ones they are $1.97 & are able to be dyed. I made my whole chassis with them. The smaller ones are 1/4" thick.

If you live in a city with a plastic or sign shop they most likely will have a scrap bin where you can get almost any plastic for practically free (usually sold by the pound). I picked up all different thicknesses of delrin sheet and rod for a couple bucks. Go with the good stuff if you can huh.

really good idea, Heard a few trying that around here.Never seen it yet..untill now. Looks awesome. It always feels good when you build something from nothing.

Looks like I am going to have to stop at Walmart sometime.
