Default tubed-n-lubed's first scale rig

Well here I go again. I picked up the $20 walmart jk & here is what I am doing with it.

This post will be mostly pictures . The first few are deconstruction of the new bright (I like to take things apart), then what I will be using on this rig & then the progress I have made in the last couple days since it arrived.

The cutting board/delrin chassis still needs to be completely disassembled, trimmed, thinned out & dyed black. That is if I keep this chassis, I may change to aluminum or steel. But I have all of the required measurements now, the body will get repainted, trimmed & new bumpers. I will also be changing the tires to Lost Rock Carvers but since RCP is closed today I will pick those up next week.

Is that a real human skull. That's gross. My Great Grandad had our GGs skull turned into a ashtray back in the 80's. I used to hate going over there. Anyways, simple build, looks good.

It looks pretty real doesn't it but no it is a Halloween prop that Lowe's was selling.

Thanks a lot guys, this one has been fun & I will post some updates when they are done uploading.

Here are some updates, I got it all running but need to change the drag link again because I am not happy with it.

I need to order stuff online as I need it because the hobby shop is dangerous!

I go by to pickup a couple servos for this build so $70 max for 2 Cirrus 704 195 oz ones but then I find the proline scale stuff & then some flat irons so I walk out for $180! The bad thing is what I spend on RC the wife gets to match on her stuff so the $180 turns into $360 real quick:-(

I think I will run this one as droop.

Do you guys think I should run the Axial wheels or a set of Eritex heavies? I do want to keep it as scale as possible but then I really like the Eritex wheels.

Oh well here are the pics.

I am pissed! The walmart cutting boards DO NOT TAKE DYE! I am going to get some Fusion paint tomorrow & see if it will stick to some scraps after some abuse, but it looks like I will be redoing the whole chassis in aluminum & can address the backwards servo/draglink issue then. I can't believe I missed that.

Ok well after my jk body fiasco I decided to take the rig another direction & do something like my 1.1 since I could not find anymore cheap jk's.

So here is where I am so far, I am also going back to what I know. Steel & lexan.

So I will mock up the skid, trans placement & links tonight. Then tomorrow I can weld some more chassis braces, shock mounts & start to figure out where the electronics will go.

This didn't post earlier & I will update more in a few mins.

Ok it is all setup. Now I will tear it all down for final welding, grinding & paint. Then make the final links & put it all back together with the body, bumpers & other accessories.

Oops! I thought I had the perfect rings until they arrived, I saw axial rings & forgot that axial makes other sizes besides 2.2

It is a rollin & a drivin.

I got it all put together today & really like it so far. I will work on the winch, tonneau cover & ladder rack tomorrow.

Let me know your thoughts! I know it is not technically a scale truck with no interior but I need something else to drive around besides my comp rig.

WARNING!!!!!! Krylon Fusion & New Bright body

That is what I did to it & then while trying to cure it since it has been cold here I left it too close to a light bulb for too long. It didn't like it! You know the Nazi's at the end of Raiders of the lost Ark when they melt & the skin slides off of their faces, that is what the JK looks like.

Well it is together & I am happy.

I still need to decide Flatirons or Geolanders.

I need to get some stiffer springs on the rear as when I set it up originally it did not have the weight of the tonneau or the rack.

Here are the pictures:
